Hotmail POP Access now live

If you want an alternative to Windows Live Mail, you can now use Outlook for
your mail needs without downloading and installing the Outlook Connector as
Hotmail have launched Free POP3 access to all your mail accounts.

Despite the news in your link, I am still getting this:

| There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected.
| Account: 'Hotmail (1)',
| Server: 'pop3.live.com',
| Protocol: POP3,
| Server Response: '-ERR user does not have POP3 access',
| Port: 995,
| Secure(SSL): Yes,
| Server Error: 0x800CCC90,
| Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Since web access, and WLM access both still work, I am assuming that the
roll out is incomplete at this time.

Re: Hotmail POP Access now live

Next Phases are still in planning and US will be included in Phase 2 which
is targeted sometime in the month of February. We will be updating this
solution article with more specific dates as we get closer to the migration

POP3 access is NOT available everywhere just yet, Colin:

<QP>
Some time ago, Windows Live indicated that they were working on implementing
free POP services for Windows Live Hotmail. The time has come and we are
glad to announce that we have begun rolling out free POP3 services to all
Windows Live Hotmail users. Since Windows Live Hotmail spans such a large
infrastructure, we need to turn this on in a controlled manner. We have
decided that it would be most appropriate to bring our users on by country.
This will allow us to slowly ramp up the new POP services and expand to the
infrastructure.

As part of Phase 1, we have rolled this feature out to all free users in
the following countries:

UK, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the
Netherlands.

Next Phases are still in planning and US will be included in Phase 2 which
is targeted sometime in the month of February. We will be updating this
solution article with more specific dates as we get closer to the migration.

Re: Hotmail POP Access now live

Only about 8 years late! lol

do you think we care? First of all hotmail is infested by so much spam that
its unusable

With players like Gmail, hotmail doesn't have a chance....

if it wasn't for the live services like messenger needing you to have an
account, hotmail would be dead and forgotten

and no one would weep...

MS gave too little too late and lost the game

Re: Hotmail POP Access now live

The POP3 works great except that it does not show enhanced characters like ö, ä, ü, ß. These are shown as ?. Using OL2007, how do I fix that?

Eh? I have a Windows Live Messenger account without any Windows Live email
account. Signed it up in the 'aosake.net' domain.

I wonder what else you got wrong.
