| | Ok, this is REALLY weird. I have been using WLM for a few months and occasionally, I find a bunch of emails in my UNREAD and INBOX from myself. I usually just shrug my shoulders and move on. It only happens once a week or so. But, today I found about 20 of them from myself and I got to checking into it and I see that there were many message that were very similar. Then, I noticed one set in particular that appear to be 4 versions of the same email. Apparently I sent it to the Outbox but kept reopening it and making minor changes. What I got returned to me was each one of the various revisions. As far as I know, all these messages were received by the intended recipients. In fact, I just confirmed it. My buddy got the final version but I got returned to me the final and all the previous versions. Any clues? Tom |

| | Re: Ok, this is REALLY weird. The Outbox is not meant as a convenient place to keep messages that need further editing before you send them. That's what the Drafts folder is for. You are misusing the Outbox for its intended purpose, which is why you are getting all those duplicates. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Tom Brown" <NoSpam@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:e3jcC9YeJHA.4684@xxxxxx Quote: >I have been using WLM for a few months and occasionally, I find a bunch of > emails in my UNREAD and INBOX from myself. | | Re: Ok, this is REALLY weird. Gary, please forgive me for disputing a MS-MVP, but I don't buy that at all. I'm not sure you understood what I was asking. First, even if I was "misusing" the Outbox, can you tell me why it would send previous versions (unsent) back to me when only one of them (the final one) was sent to the intended recipients. My Sent items folder only has one version. Examining the four that came back to me, I could see each successive modification. Very strange. FYI, I don' think they ever left my computer but they definitely (suddenly) ended up in my Unread Email and Inbox showing as "Unread." All at once, there was a large group of them ... about 20 total. Some of them were sent Second, who says you can't modify something sitting in the Outbox that has not been mailed? This is one reason I don't use the option to Send Messages Immediately. If you can point out anywhere in any documentation for OE or WLM saying that you should not modify a message once it's in the Outbox, I'll buy into it. I have been using OE for about 10 years and I have never seen this problem and I have always modified items in the Outbox if required. I never saw anything like this in OE. Has anyone else seen anything like this or have any ideas about this strange behavior? | | Re: Ok, this is REALLY weird. See, that is one I should have modified since I sent it with an incomplete sentence. In the 3rd paragraph, I should have said that "some of those returned messages were sent over the past two days." | | Re: Ok, this is REALLY weird. Here's how I interpret messages that appear as sent from and to you ... - messages that encountered a problem at some point in time during the send/receive processs(abort, timeout, inability to handshake with the server, performing another task that impacts the writing of the message store, isp problem, etc). They are present as a fail-safe in the event the message was not delivered. Contents recoverable if necessary. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "Tom Brown" <NoSpam@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:e3jcC9YeJHA.4684@xxxxxx Quote: > I have been using WLM for a few months and occasionally, I find a bunch of emails in my UNREAD and INBOX from myself. | | Re: Ok, this is REALLY weird. Imagine that you opened a message from Outbox, the program succeeded in sending it, and you then saved the edited copy. What do you expect to happen to it ten? I don't think that there is any right answer. What you are relying on is undocumented behavior in OE, that is no doubt still undocumented but different in WLM. I may not be able to explain the workings of the mechanism, but I know what to do to prevent it from happening. ;-) -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Tom Brown" <NoSpam@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uyQNcsdeJHA.4180@xxxxxx Quote: > Gary, please forgive me for disputing a MS-MVP, but I don't buy that at > all.
