| | Animation in Email, & Contacts Listing in Email Account Column I save some animated icons, like smileys and other gifs, most of which I've saved from other emails I've received. In Outlook Express I used to always insert them into emails by hitting the Insert icon and browsing to my folder (stored in my Documents). I tried to do this every which way in Windows Live Mail. I used the "Add image" icon, and the Insert > Image > Photo email, and Insert > Image > Inline (whatever that means). Every time, the animated icon came out still, it lost its animated quality. I did succeed just once, but never since. I don't know if some update disabled it, or perhaps my turning on my UAC (User Account Control) feature disabled it? That's the only change I've made on my system. ALSO, I miss having my Contacts listed below my email accounts, with a scroll bar so I could easily scan through them and simply double-click a name to open a new email addressed to that contact. In WLM you have to open a separate window with contacts and then right-click a name and choose "Send an email". It's not nearly as efficient or convenient. Is there some option somewhere to get the Contacts listed below the email accounts like OE used to be set up? Any ideas, suggestions, work-arounds are welcome. Thanks, Joanne |

| | Re: Animation in Email, & Contacts Listing in Email Account Column WLM will not show the animation in the email composition window. Save to Drafts, then open the email from Drafts or send an email to yourself to check the animation. WLM does a really good job of creating a list of contacts when you start typing in the address field. The more that you type, the shorter the list. Typing brings up a list of the typed letters in first name, last name, display name, and email address. Typing 'jo' would bring up Jones, Johnson, joe1956@xxxxxx, john146@xxxxxx It is faster than scrolling through a list of contacts. I didn't waste screen space on the contacts pane in OE. -- Ronald Sommer "Joanne" <Joanne@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:46A0734C-5EFF-44E6-947E-0A0D143BB88E@xxxxxx Quote: > I save some animated icons, like smileys and other gifs, most of which > I've > saved from other emails I've received. | | Re: Animation in Email, & Contacts Listing in Email Account Column Thanks for your reply. WOW, I can't believe WLM won't show animation in an email composition window - please tell me WHY?!!!!!! I don't understand how first saving an email as a Draft would help either, that doesn't change the email in any way, it just saves it temporarily before sending, in its original form. I'll try it anyway the next time I'm on my Vista machine, but I don't have much hope to be honest...and what a nuisance. I also don't understand how/why it worked the first time I tried it (the animation worked) and never since, that's a mystery to me! I'm also stunned that there is no option to set up Contacts to be viewed at all times in that left-hand pane below email accounts in WLM. I know of course about inserting contacts via auto-complete, but that's not nearly as efficient as just double-clicking names already visible in the window to insert them into the email Address bar. I also like to scroll thru those contacts sometimes to select contacts I want to send a specific email to, and it's so much more convenient and SMART to have them right there. At least give me the OPTION to set it up that way, as it was in Outlook Express! Now I'm honestly wondering if there's some way to download a version of OE to Vista, coz WLM is really a step BACKWARDS if you ask me, with less features and less customization options. So disappointing. I also have an issue with WLM opening to and syncing first to my secondary Hotmail account which is listed SECOND in the accounts listing in that left panel. It will NOT open to or sync first to the Hotmail account I have designated as the "DEFAULT" account, listed on top, and also first alphabetically btw. So what's up with that? Is it possible that works according to the order in which the accounts were originally set up, and maybe, by some chance, I configured my secondary email account first? That's the only other thing I can think of! One other issue - The F5 shortcut I used to use in OE to Refresh and download any new mail to the Inbox I'm in at the moment, no longer works in WLM. I've tried ctrl-m instead, but that just opens the whole "Send/Receive" window, which once again starts downloading new messages from the top, i.e. with my secondary account first. I just want to update an individual account for any possible new messages periodically, in between my 7-minute designated intervals set up under Tools > Options. Know what else? I couldn't even get to this reply from the link enclosed in the "Microsoft Community" email notification I received. All I got was a blank white webpage when I clicked on the link. I tried copying and pasting the address too, several times, and on several different machines, with no luck. I ended up navigating to it via a Google search instead. So, why don't the official links to replies in this forum WORK?! Oh boy, now I can't even get this forum to Send my reply! Twice now I've written it and gotten a page saying "The website is busy now" after I hit "Post". Now at least I know to hit "Go back" vs. "Refresh the page" so I don't lose what I've written again (I made a copy too, not taking anymore chances). Only now, the "Post" button is grayed out, so there's no way to try sending this again. Unbelievable. What is UP with this site, it seems to be pretty problematic?!!! Thanks for the help, sorry to sound so frustrated, it's just that....I AM! :>| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Ron Sommer" wrote: Quote: > WLM will not show the animation in the email composition window. > Save to Drafts, then open the email from Drafts or send an email to yourself > to check the animation. > > WLM does a really good job of creating a list of contacts when you start > typing in the address field. > The more that you type, the shorter the list. > Typing brings up a list of the typed letters in first name, last name, > display name, and email address. > Typing 'jo' would bring up Jones, Johnson, joe1956@xxxxxx, john146@xxxxxx > It is faster than scrolling through a list of contacts. > I didn't waste screen space on the contacts pane in OE. > -- > Ronald Sommer > > > "Joanne" <Joanne@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:46A0734C-5EFF-44E6-947E-0A0D143BB88E@xxxxxx Quote: > > I save some animated icons, like smileys and other gifs, most of which > > I've > > saved from other emails I've received. That's > the only other thing I can think of! secondary. - I've set up two hotmail accounts to mimic your #1 and #2, with #1 as default, #2 as the second account setup in WLM. Sent each account a separate message using a third email address on a different pc. - WLM on the intended recipient pc is configured to send/receive messages at startup. - Opened WLM on the recipient pc and used the Live ID#1 as the signon email address Live ID#1 received the email first. My personal preference..don't check 'Send/Receive' at startup..Perform the sync(send/receive) by account or manually. Sync button on the Toolbar or on the menu(Tools) has three options News mode - sync newsgroup, sync all newsgroups(F5), sync everything(Ctrl F5) Mail mode - sync email account, sync all email accounts(F5), sync everything(Ctrl F5) WLM has a common Outbox for all news and mail messages. In news mode Ctrl-F5 is required to send any unsent emails present in the Outbox In Mail mode, F5 and Ctrl-F5 sends all contents of the Outbox Quote: > Thanks for the help, sorry to sound so frustrated, it's just that....I AM! :>| > > |
