| | Limit amount of viewed emails? I have a problem with Windows Live Mail, in that it shows all my emails at once (and I don't want it to load/show my entire list of thousands of emails). It seems the only way to limit that, is to only have it show "unread emails", but I would like to see some of my recent "read mails" as well. In Outlook and Thunderbird, you could collapse older emails. It was automatically split up into new/old emails. That way I would always look at the last week of emails and nothing more. Is there a way to limit how many emails it shows? Thanks |

| | Re: Limit amount of viewed emails? Not in WLM. There is a registry entry you can alter to expand unread emails (simply set "Expand Unread" to "1" found under HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows Live Mail) but nothing to limit the amount of emails that get shown. | | Re: Limit amount of viewed emails? Thank you for the tip Colin, I will surely use that now that the "Outlook feature" is missing. But I can't stop worrying this could be a problem in the long run, when it comes to speed/responsiveness. I mean, I have multiple email-accounts with thousands of emails each. Changing between these accounts on a daily basis in WLM I fear will be noticeably slower than if I could limit it to show last week's emails as a default. (the thing with hiding them all via the mentioned "hide unread"- feature, can in some situations solve the problem, but it is far from always I want to hide ALL my emails) On 21 Jan., 21:44, "Colin Brown WLMVP" <Hackerso...@xxxxxx> wrote: Quote: > Not in WLM. | | Re: Limit amount of viewed emails? Which folder are you in when you see all those old emails? The Inbox folder should not be used for semi-permanent storage. Make a separate archive folder for the older messages. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Jack Flannigan" <jack.flannigan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:f2dc6b52-f525-46ea-8474-a1e4f2248ad0@xxxxxx Quote: >I have a problem with Windows Live Mail, in that it shows all my > emails at once (and I don't want it to load/show my entire list of > thousands of emails). > It seems the only way to limit that, is to only have it show "unread > emails", but I would like to see some of my recent "read mails" as > well. > > In Outlook and Thunderbird, you could collapse older emails. | | Re: Limit amount of viewed emails? You got a good point Gary. I must admit I never thought of this archive-thing. I see why it can be a good idea or why it is the normal thing to do as you suggest. But when using Gmail (or Hotmail for that matter) I never really felt the need for that. The search-options functions very well, and it is a timesaver for me never having to worry about catagorizing/archiving old material. I get a lot of email, some important and some not. I can find just about all of it with a simple search. And when logged into Gmail or Hotmail it only shows around 25-50 emails per page, so it was never a problem when I accessed them via my browser. My point is: for me it would most likely be a "time-waster" having to suddenly worry about that. Even if I made it automatic, like storing all older-than-a-certain-date-emails to an archive, the problem would be the same each time I had to access the archive (that would then be filled with thousands of emails, it would have to show at once in WLM). I don't mean to sound ungrateful for the nice advice (it actually made me look at things a bit differently), I am just trying to explain why this still not might be the ideal thing in regards to the way I use email/WLM. Thanks again. In a Find window. E.g. to see only messages for the last week press Ctrl-Shift-F, Alt-c, F4, CursorUp, Enter, Enter. I keep thinking that that would make a good keyboard macro... ; ) Quote: > > Thanks Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- |

| | Re: Limit amount of viewed emails? We all have different ways of working. I seldom need to find a message older than a few weeks, so I either archive those or delete them. I use POP mail almost exclusively. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Jack Flannigan" <jack.flannigan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3328b89b-c3e9-40e9-a937-1ad1fcfd1cad@xxxxxx You got a good point Gary. | | Re: Limit amount of viewed emails? there is a problem with this method. how does one move thousands of messages to a diff folder? MS has confirmed that you can move only fifty at a time. Any more than that and one starts receiving errors when syncing with the hotmail servers. then, the only solution is to delete the whole email-database and start from scratch...
