Vista - subject line content in reply message body

subject line content in reply message body

Sometimes when I reply to a message, the original subject line content is
inserted into the body of the message. When I go to edit the reply message,
the subject line content is hidden. By switching to plain text the subject
line content is removed from the body of the message.

Re: subject line content in reply message body

It's normal in a reply for the sender and subject to appear in the body
when you use the option to include the original message in replies.

I'm wondering if you are talking about a different issue.

If the sender uses stationery and you reply in plain text, you will see
the name of the stationery at the beginning reply. You'll also see that
if you are reading in plain text.

Re: subject line content in reply message body

Yes it is a different issue. I am not talking about the text that gets
entered from the 'from', "sent', 'to', 'subject' field. There is hidden
subject line content that appears at the beginning of the body of the message
after you send or save the message from a reply.

Re: subject line content in reply message body

Since you say it happens with only some messages, I suspect it's the
stationery name that you are seeing.

With a problem message, take a look at the Message Source (Ctrl-F3). Do
you see the "hidden subject line" at the top of the "Text/Plain" section
of the message before the regular text of the message? If so, that's a
quirk of the sending problem when sender uses stationery.

You won't see that in WLM unless you are reading or replying in plain
text.

Re: subject line content in reply message body

There is no stationary involved.

The hidden subject line content is 4 lines after the top of the text/plain
section. There is the charset field amd content-transfer-encoding field and
then a blank line.

I am using plain text to read my messages. When I switch back to html the
hidden subject line content dissappears. Although I can still see the hidden
subject line content in the source. It's odd that it only happens with a few
messages.

Re: subject line content in reply message body

If you would like, you may send me one of the problem messages and I'll
take a look at it. It's best if you zip the message so that I get an
exact copy of it. To do that, do a File, Save As to an EML file of a
problem message. Then Right click the saved EML file and select Send
To, Compressed (zipped) folder. Then e-mail me the resulting ZIP file.
Alternately, you can do a Actions, Forward As Attachment of a problem
message. This is not as good as the zip file since the headers can be
modified in transit which may obscure the problem. A simple Forward is
worthless since it does not include the headers.

Re: subject line content in reply message body

I got a sample message from the poster and it turns out to be the same
issue as with stationery.

The sample problem message was from Microsoft support. They use a TITLE
tag in the HTML with the incident number, which happens to be the same
as the subject.

When you reply to such a message, WLM puts the TITLE contents at the top
of the Plain Text version of the message. It's not readily visible when
working in HTML mode.

When dealing with Stationery, it's the same thing. The TITLE ends up at
the top of Plain Text version of the message reply.

Outlook Express works the same way, so this appears to be a carry over
from that.

Since most HTML mail (other than stationery) does not use a TITLE tag,
the issue doesn't show up with most mail.

Re: subject line content in reply message body

Excluding stationary, I noticed that outlook v.12 and exchange were the
mailers that had the title element.
