    Using Windows Live Mail w/Vista

I would like to use Windows Live Mail on my new HP Touchsmart w/vista.
Currently, I am using Yahoo mail with an ameritech.net email account.
Whenever I attempt to send a photo, forward a web page, etc...WLM opens,
sucks all my yahoo mail from Yahoo mail Inbox...sent mail stays in Outbox but
will not send..so, my Inbox (with my yahoo account is empty) and I can't use
WLM...except to open and read....can not send.
What I'd like to do is set up to use Windows live mail and discontinue Yahoo.

I also have windows mail installed as well....should I delete one of these
programs, I have not a clue what or how to do this.

Re: Using Windows Live Mail w/Vista

Apparently, Windows Live Mail (WLM) is set as your default program.
which is why it opens when you try to send from another program.

Also apparently, your Yahoo account is set up in WLM without the option
to Leave a copy of messages on the server (Tools, Accounts, Mail,
Properties, Advanced). You can change that if you like.

Are you getting any error message when you try to send? It could be
because Yahoo requires SMTP Authentication and SSL on port 465. The
account settings should be the same as you have in Windows Mail.

WLM can co-exist with the Vista Windows Mail (WM) although only one can
    be the default mail program.

You can also uninstall WLM if you like, but not WM.

But before deleting any mail accounts or uninstalling anything, make
sure that you have your mail messages backed up.

Is this a free Yahoo account, or one that is partnered through Ameritech?
US-based free Yahoo accounts have webmail access only, no POP access.

One solution is to pay Yahoo to get their premium "Mail Plus" service:
    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...iew/index.html
and use the special settings for that service:
    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-14.html

Yahoo accounts that are associated with an ISP partner do have POP
access. Do you get an error message? If so, right-click on your error
message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.

If you have an older (legacy) Ameritech email account (non-Yahoo),
why not set that up in Windows Live Mail?

Windows Mail cannot be uninstalled. It will stay dormant if Windows
Live Mail is designated as your default email client.

This a good explanation of what is happening but I'm lost as to how to fix it!

I am not getting any error messages when I attempt to send from WLM...it
    just sits in the Outbox.

The SMTP port is set at 465.

Is there a way to set Yahoo mail to be the default program when sending
photos either from my computer or from a website?
    OR
Would it be better to get WLM so it can send not only recieve???

Yes, there is an error message this time..

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's
    e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was 'slcrac@xxxxxx'.

    Subject 'Emailing: Home'
    Server Error: 530
Server Response: 530 authentication required - for help go to

As for setting Yahoo mail to be the default program, that depends
on whether you mean the Yahoo webmail interface. If so, no, you can't
set that webmail service as the default.

Thanks..I actually got some info last night from an online tech about
changing those...110 needed to be 995 and 25 needed to be 465 plus a couple
of items needed to be checked to allow autherization...works great.
