Screwed up my mail by not leaving a copy on the server- time/date stamps screwed up.

I setup OE to download my Hotmail via POP. What I forgot to do was check
the box to leave the messages on the server because I like to have
everything available in an online version of Live Mail as well. So, to fix
the problem I created another account in OE for my Hotmail but set it up to
connect via the HTTP protocol and then dragged everything that was
downloaded via POP over to the HTTP mailbox. HOWEVER, once all the mail was
moved back to the online folders all the time/date stamps reflect the time
it was moved back and not the original time/date. When I go back to OE the
time/date stamp is correct in the HTTP Hotmail folder. Just WLMD and an
online browser session reflect the incorrect time/date stamps.

Is there anyway to get the time/date stamp to appear correctly when viewing
my mail in Live Mail Desktop and an HTTP browser session?

Thanks,
Tom

Re: Screwed up my mail by not leaving a copy on the server- time/date stamps screwed up.

OK, I restored everything from backup that was on my HP Mediasmart Server
from last night. However, as soon as my Hotmail account syncs up it's
apparently using the online mailbox as the master and all my inbox emails
are deleted in WLMD. How can I get my online account to treat WLMD as the
master and upload to the web?

Re: Screwed up my mail by not leaving a copy on the server- time/date stamps screwed up.

ok, I think I figured it out. What I had to do is drag all the EML files
from my backup to a temporary folder in my WLMD hotmail account. I synced
that with my Hotmail account online by doing a send/receive. I then logged
into my Hotmail account and moved all those emails in the newly created
folder to the inbox. Then I went back to WLMD and did a send/receive and
all the emails were back in my inbox again with the correct date/time stamp.
I lost all my flags but at least the messages were back.

In Outlook Express I could just restore from backup and that was it. I
never lost messages in OE like I did with WLMD.

Hope that helps others who have a similar problem.

Re: Screwed up my mail by not leaving a copy on the server- time/date stamps screwed up.

Lost messages ?

Didn't you setup a synchronized existing Hotmail account as a pop3 account thereby removing messages from your online Hotmail Inbox
and remove from the server ?

Were not all previous backups in OE prior to use of the pop3 setup in WLM, thus no messages removed from the server ?

Re: Screwed up my mail by not leaving a copy on the server- time/date stamps screwed up.

Yes, I did setup a pop account in OE yesterday to test my ability to access
via pop, however I forgot to check off "leave messages on server". I use
OE at work but WLMD at home where all my messages in the inbox were then
removed. I restored the message store from backup at home. I restored
those messages to a subfolder which then synced with my online account. In
my online account I moved those to the inbox and they synced back down to my
inbox in WLMD.

Hope that is more clear.

Re: Screwed up my mail by not leaving a copy on the server- time/date stamps screwed up.

Yes, I understood it the first time...I wanted to be sure that everyone understood that WLM doesn't lose messages on a remote pop3
server if the user downloads them from the server. The server follows standard pop3 protocol to send the messages to the requestor,
once sent the server updates the inbox.

Re: Screwed up my mail by not leaving a copy on the server- time/date stamps screwed up.

You cannot "upload to the web" (move downloaded POP3 messages back to the
mailserver) using WLM(D), OE, or any other Mail Client.
