Getting an error message when trying to mark an email as junk

Hi,
I am a new user of widows live mail: ( version2009)

I have 2 questions:

1-On my «Gmail» acount ( IMAP) I can't seem to find the way for my «junk mail» to appear in my «unread mail folder» How can I prevent that ? why cant it appear in the «Junk mail» folder instead and remain there?

2- When I do get «Junk mail» in my «unread mail folder» I tried to mark as junk but all I get is an error message which states :« the selected message(s) could not be moved. An error has occured» what can I do to be able to «mark away the junk emails»

Thank you

Hey Dave,

This is a friend of mine (bigmax4011). He is using XP 32 bit. I assume
he has SP2 installed but I don't know. I don't know what security software
he uses. I assume he has the standard Windows firewall. He has never used an
email client before so I had him install WLM and successfully set up three
email accounts. I know they're successfully set up because all the folders
were downloaded and I have sent messages to his accounts. One is a
windowslive email account, one is a netzero account and the other is a yahoo
email account. He simply can't connect to the accounts from within WLM. I
had him to into his program files and send a shortcut to his desktop. We've
opened WLM from this desktop shortcut and also from clicking on start, All
Programs and then WLM. Same story, no success in connecting to his three
accounts from within WLM.
On the Yahoo email account, the outgoing server is port 25 and the
incoming server is port 110, which are the defaults. I tried port 465 as the
outgoing and 995 for the incoming but still no go. Those are the ports I use
for my Yahoo account. My Yahoo email account is sbcglobal. I then reverted
back to the default ports of 25 and 110. I configured the SSL and
authentication correctly.
Whenever he first opens WLM he gets the standard non-connect to the
server error message for all accounts and I don't know why. His usernames,
email addresses and passwords are all correct. I had him uncheck Outlook
Express in the add or remove Windows features in Add and Remove Programs. He
never used Outlook Express anyway. He always accessed his three email
accounts directly, without the use of an email client. I then had him set
WLM as his default email client in Default Programs and also through
Internet Options. For some reason he cannot select WLM as his default email
program in the Microsoft, Non Microsoft and Custom options. I don't know
why. I'm beta testing Win 7 and I use Vista otherwise so I can't duplicate
whatever he's doing for the purpose of helping him. We were doing all this
over the telephone.
Again, once he first opens WLM it doesn't check for messages and he
gets the can't connect error box. However, he is successfully using the
newsgroup and it does download messages correctly. Otherwise, he couldn't
have posted the question in the string we're on now.
I had this problem once before, when I mistakenly deleted one of my
sbcglobal email accounts. I simply couldn't get it to access the server
properly and had to call AT&T. They couldn't get it to work correctly
either. Everything was configured correctly. Then, out of nowhere, it
started working and the error message never came back again. We did nothing
differently than what I did today. I did have him restart his computer and
still no go.
Again, bigmax4011 has never used a newsreader or asked questions in a
newsgroup before so he's a little wet behind the ears, just as I was when I
first started using WLM. Please be patient with him.

Re: Getting an error message when trying to mark an email as junk

Hi,

You have more than one e-mail account and you are talking about the Quick Views? If you click on the wrench on the right end of the Quick Views title bar you can see what each one does and decide which you want to see. They aren't actual folders, so you can't actually move mail messages to them, and All junk e-mail is what is actually in your individual accounts junk mail folders. Once mail is determined to be junk, it should only show up in All junk and the individual account Junk mail.
There is a check box on Tools, Options, Advanced that says Use 'Deleted Items' folder for IMAP accounts and I think it is checked as a default, I'm not sure why, but you might try changing it?
As far as the error goes, I'm not sure. You could right click on that accounts inbox or all accounts and make sure the Synchronization setting is set for all messages and then Sync all mail and try again.
And you might want to see:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...87&ctx=sibling
for the correct SMTP settings for Gmail.
