An updated version was made available on Feb 12.
Download.live.com
web installer and full version installer
Msft Download site
web installer.
<qp>
We've also made a few smaller improvements to this release (Build 14.0.8064.0206), so even if you already installed the new
Messenger 2009 as recently as January 2009, you should consider getting the update. The latest version includes a lot of
behind-the-scenes improvements that you may not notice if you already have Messenger 2009, but that will help Messenger and the
other Windows Live Essentials programs all run a little more smoothly.

Has the insipid colour schemes and lack of bold (except subject column) for
unread posts been fixed?

They are hell-bent on implementing the crappy 5:1 contrast ratio
scheme from Windows 7.
Whatever happened to the sensible concept that text should
communicate, i.e., be as clear and sharp as possible?

I hope that question is not for me, because I don't know what you are
referring to.
However, just for the hell of it :
One word ....No ~ answer to " Have they been fixed yet ? "
Two words ....Not likely ~ answer to ( imaginary ) " Are they going to ?
"
Three words ....They don't care ~ answer to ( imaginary ) " Why not ? "

This update is not WLM feature driven but more compatibility related and focused on WLMsgr.
Since the Live Essential applications are an integrated suite... updating one will update all to ensure the integrity of the suite.
I.e. Imo, don't expect any individual application stand-alone updates deployed via download.live.com. In the future, once
Microsoft Update is turned on and fully inplace, patches to an individual app may or may not be deployed.

I see they still haven't done anything about the Live Calendar service being unavailable, and shooting the CPU into the stratosphere trying to update it. /sigh.
