| Vista Ultimate 32bit | Calendar Reminders don't work I played around today with the Windows Live Mail Desktop with Calendar (part of the wave 3 suite) on a friend's machine today and here's what I don't understand: If, from within the desktop mail client, you just add an event in the calendar for today, set an alert time (or set it on 'All Day'), then set a five-minute reminder beforehand, then Save & Close, it DOES NOT REMIND you in any way of the event. If you e-mail it to yourself, then you get a miniscule email notification which is just a tiny yellow rectangle over the regular Live Mail icon in the system tray. It's not a pop-up reminder, just an e-mail notifier, same as before. So why would anyone use this? I have Outlook 2007, and as a calendar reminder it rocks (providing real pop-ups notifications complete with fade effects), but of course you have to have it open all the time and it is a rather bloated app with features I'll likely never use. So I actually wanted to like, and ultimately use, the Live Mail/Calendar combo but I find this functionality really useless. Yes, you can edit your calendar from your mail app and it syncs with the calendar online..but so what? It's not even time-specific, since you can set a reminder for later in the day, but once you e-mail it (which you HAVE to do, at least from the desktop client since no reminder will be issued otherwise) it will show up in your inbox instantly instead of the time you set it for. At least when you create a reminder online, it honors the exact time that you set it for. So all in all, pretty useless execution of an otherwise nice idea...or am I missing something? | | RE: Calendar Reminders don't work You won't get any popup-reminders, you'll get a Notification via your Livemail-Inbox or via Messenger. You have to configure this. By the way: are the reminders really sychronized correctly? If I set up an reminder in web-interface, my LiveMail-calendar always shows "0 Minutes". (Posted that some days ago, but didn't get any reply...) Stefan |
