WLM won't restart

After closing WLM, it will not restart. It is not running in the background
per Task Manager.

System is fully updated Win XP and WLM 2009 (Build 14.0.8064.0206)

I have to reboot the system to get WLM to restart. Any helpful thoughts?

Re: WLM won't restart

WLM often doesn't close correctly. You can run Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL)
and close all the instances of wlmail.exe so you don't have to reboot. I
hope the latest update has fixed this.

Re: WLM won't restart

Hi, Codger.

Task Manager can be misleading. :>( Especially on the Applications tab.
Many background applications (like Indexing and Defrag) never show up here,
even though we know they are running in the background.

Even if Windows Live Mail is not shown as Running on the Applications tab,
the Processes tab may show that the wlmail.exe process is still running.
And you might not even see that process unless you click the button at the
bottom of the Processes screen that says Show processes from all users.

Close WLM and then open Task Manager. See if you can find wlmail.exe on the
Processes tab, right-click on it, and click End Process. If you find more
than one instance of wlmail.exe, End Process them all. When they are all
gone, see if you can start WLM again.

Windows Live Mail won't restart

Same problem here and on and on it goes with no freaking help in sight from
anywhere. The suggestion of updating tothe new build doesn't work either.
As far aws I am concerned it is the whole new Windows Live Essentials that
caused this. I would just as soon go back to the original. Does ANYBO??DY
know how to resolve this?

Re: Windows Live Mail won't restart

Same problem here. I did find that WLM is usually running in the background
when it won't restart; when I kill it, it will then restart - a real pain.
The improvement from MS is no improvement as far as I'm concerned. Sure
wish MS would post a fix.

Re: Windows Live Mail won't restart

I've never experienced this. What OS are you running? I've used WLM on XP,
Vista, and Win7.
I have seen this on FireFox, but never WLM.

Re: Windows Live Mail won't restart

Do you have any errors in your windowsLiveMail.Log file when mail fails to
start?

C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live
Mail\WindowsLiveMail.Log
(Vista)
C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\WindowsLiveMail.Log(xp)
