WLMail will not start - "Your calendar contains corrupt data"

Hello,

I installed WLMail on a XP machine and all my OE emails and accounts were
converted. Now I want to move this mail folder to a Vista Business machine.
But as soon as I change the mail folder to that folder, created with XP,
WLMail will not start anymore, saying that the calendar data is corrupt. But
actually I don't have any calendar data.

I installed WLMail again several time but this doesn't help. Importing all
the emails is not really a solution as I will get a completely different
folder structure and everything will be messed up.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Holger

Is it the same version/Build of WLMail on both computers (Help->About Microsoft Windows Live mail)?

Assuming they are the same version...

Delete the 'Calendars' folder in the XP Message Store and try again.

If that does not work, with the XP Message Store in Place at the default location, do a Repair Install of Windows Live Essentials.

Re: WLMail will not start - "Your calendar contains corrupt data"

Thank you for your fast reply.

The versions are the same on all 3 machines (2 times XP, 1 time Vista).
Deleting the calendar folder just led to another error message, saying that
the mailfolder is used by another application at the moment.

What finally helped was to copy the mailfolder to the default location. Now
it works. But unfortunately this is not really a solution for my problem as I
want to have the folder on an external harddisk. This works without a problem
on XP but not on Vista.

Re: WLMail will not start - "Your calendar contains corrupt data"

Neither Windows Mail nor Windows Live Mail seems happy with
attempting to put the message store on an external drive.
The best solution is to get a free IMAP account from Gmail, then
set all your other accounts to forward to that Gmail account. As you
probably know, IMAP (and HTTP) accounts will keep all their folders
synced over as many computers as you want.

Re: WLMail will not start - "Your calendar contains corrupt data"

The problem with the external harddisk seems to be a pure Windows Vista
rights issue. After managing this, it works.
The bad thing is, that WLMail on Vista seems to convert/change some files.
So when taking back the mail storage to WLMail on XP, I get that "corrupt
calendar data" message again, this time on XP.
It looks like WLMail is doing different things on XP and Vista.
Also it dropped all the passwords of the email accounts which is not really
a problem but it looks quite strange to me.

Re: WLMail will not start - "Your calendar contains corrupt data"

Dropping the passwords is not surprising because the passwords are
encrypted using a hash derived from the current Windows user. If the
current Windows user changes, it will invalidate the password store.

Re: WLMail will not start - "Your calendar contains corrupt data"

I have the same problem.
I store all my personal data including mail folders on my D drive.
When opening Live mail I was getting the message WLMAIL.EXE could not open due to corrupt disk, run chkdsk. despite running chkdsk I was also unable to access a lot of files on my D drive.
Consequently I replaced my Hard drive and a couple of months later started getting exactly the same error messages when opening Windows Live Mail.

Re: WLMail will not start - "Your calendar contains corrupt data"

Is your D: drive a separate disk, or a separate partition of the
main disk? It is always best to maintain the message store on
the same disk as where WLMAIL.EXE is installed. Even a
momentary response failure of a separate drive can cause the
Windows Live Mail message store to become corrupted.

Sorry, then I don't know what could have caused the corruption issue
you are seeing. Hopefully another responder has a better insight.
