Rebuild Database

Running XP SP3 and ZWindows Live Mail for email

Computer Locked while WLM was receiving messages in background. Had to hard
reboot. When computer came back up tried to restart WLM. Got a message WLM
needs to rebuild the database, a few seconds later message that WLM need to
shut down. Whether you click yes or no to send info to microsoft program just
shuts down.

Tried:

1 - Repair WLM through the control panel remove programs option.
2 - Removed all WL components and reinstalled newest version from microsoft
website.
3 - Repaired that version through the control panel also.
4 - Ran both Registery Mechanic and RegCure

All just result in same 2 messages. All other programs operating correctly I
believe.

If anyone has suggestions I would appreciate the help. I have my
messages/contacts/accounts all backed up as this was done on 3/2/09 so loss
of that is not a issue.

Thanks,
Rich Moran

Re: Rebuild Database

The problem appears to be corruption within your WLMail Message Store*...

I suggest that you rename the Message Store folder [to "Windows Live Mail (old)"] and restart WLMail. The Message Store will be re-created by WLMail.

If WLMail starts successfully, that confirms the problem lied in the old Message Store.

You will need to recreate your accounts and import** your Messages from your old Message Store, or from a backup.

*Note that Windows Live Mail's Message Store, in its default location, is a hidden folder. So ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked under Folder Options in Windows Explorer...

The default location of Windows Live Mail's Message Store is:

Vista:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail
(C:\Users\<User_Name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail)

XP:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail
(C:\Documents and Settings\<User_Name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail)

**Messages can be dragged from the old Message Store onto your WLM User Interface as a method of importing them, or you can import messages directly by Browsing to your old (renamed) Message Store with File->Import->Messages->Windows Live Mail->Next->Browse...
