| | Cannot setup AOL or Yahoo mail with Windows Live Mail I installed Windows Live Mail and have tried to set up both my AOL and Yahoo (Yahoo Plus) email accounts. I get error messages with both. My hotmail account is working fine. The error message I get with Yahoo is: Unable to send or receive messages for the Yahoo account. The connection to the server has failed. Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com' Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E Protocol: POP3 Secure(SSL): No Socket Error: 10060 The error message I get with AOL is: Your IMAP command could not be sent to the server, due to non-network errors. This could, for example, indicate a lack of memory on your system Configuration: Account: Aol (username) Server: imap.aol.com User name: (username) Protocol: IMAP Port: 143 Secure(SSL): 0 Code: 800ccc0e Has anyone had this problem before? Is there some kind of initial setup I need to do to Windows Live Mail to be able to add new email accounts? Thank you! |

| | Re: Cannot setup AOL or Yahoo mail with Windows Live Mail Your settings are wrong. Here are the ones for Yahoo Plus: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-14.html and for bog-standard AOL: http://postmaster.aol.com/imap/express.html If you follow these slavishly, it should work. This is my company's laptop and all of the selections on the "Internet E-mail Auto-Protect" page in Symantec are greyed out. However, most are unchecked. | | Re: Cannot setup AOL or Yahoo mail with Windows Live Mail The settings page I posted yesterday gives the following: Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 995) Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication) Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com") Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., user@xxxxxx) Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password So, SSL all round and authentication to send. Another pitfall is the Account Name - it /says/ 'without the @yahoo.com'. -- Noel "N. | | Re: Cannot setup AOL or Yahoo mail with Windows Live Mail http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-30.html The above link must have a mistake on several of the email program setups, because it says not to check SSL. The main point is do not check any of the authentication settings on the server tab. -- Ronald Sommer "Ildhund" <jnllb@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:eEQZ9lpoJHA.4540@xxxxxx Quote: > The settings page I posted yesterday gives the following: > Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 995) > Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 465, > use authentication) > Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! | | Re: Cannot setup AOL or Yahoo mail with Windows Live Mail Yes, I noticed that. Some pages there are clearly older than others. It does say somewhere, though, that if you're having problems with POP or SMTP to turn SSL off and use ports 110/25 or 587, so perhaps that's what the OP should try next. Increasing the timeout wouldn't hurt, either. -- Noel "Ron Sommer" <rsommer@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:OUJqtaqoJHA.4372@xxxxxx Quote: > http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-30.html > The above link must have a mistake on several of the email program > setups, because it says not to check SSL. > The main point is do not check any of the authentication settings > on the server tab. > -- > Ronald Sommer > > "Ildhund" <jnllb@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:eEQZ9lpoJHA.4540@xxxxxx Quote: >> The settings page I posted yesterday gives the following: >> Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, >> port: 995) >> Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, >> port: 465, use authentication) >> Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Another pitfall is the > Account Name - it /says/ 'without the @yahoo.com'. As for the authentication, I have successfully used just the name part, and even Yahoo! Personal Profile IDs associated with accounts; except for the co-branded ISP sub accounts. Those are not in the 'yahoo.com' domain, and the domain name must be specified in order not to be confused with similar user names in the 'yahoo.com' domain: I.e., I need to sign in as '%User_ID%@pacbell.net' in order not to be confused with '%User_ID%@yahoo.com', or any of the other legacy AT&T domain names. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
