WLMail Startup after updating WLMessenger

I am having a similar cross-platform problem after with Windows Live mail
after updating to Live Messenger (Build 14.0.8064.206) on an XP, Vista, and
Win7 beta. i try to launch Live Mail and the hourglass starts and flashes off
without launching. i then go to Task Manager and wlmail.exe is running under
the applications tab. If i end process, the next time i start up Live Mail it
works properly.

Any suggestion would be appreciated, as 2 of our machines have migrated away
from Outlook and using WLM exclusively.

Re: WLMail Startup after updating WLMessenger

Do you see the WLMail icon in the System Tray, and can you interact with it?

If so, a similar issue has been experienced by a few people.

As a result, two programs have been found to conflict with WLMail 14x and cause such problems.

The two programs are 'WindowBlinds' ('Aero Metal' skin for one) and 'Trillian Astra'.

There may be others though.

Re: WLMail Startup after updating WLMessenger

Might be AVG antivirus scanning emails - I have reinstalled it without the
email component. Will see if that is the culprit.

Re: WLMail Startup after updating WLMessenger

i have Symantec Client Security on the XP and Vista machines, and NOD32 on
the Win7 box. If this is the issue, time to change email clients.

Re: WLMail Startup after updating WLMessenger

No...just disable email scanning..its redundant to the automatic protection that remains in place when opening an email or
attachment.

Re: WLMail Startup after updating WLMessenger

Forgive my naiveté, but how is 3rd party virus email scanning "redundant"? Is
Microsoft that secure that they have now decided that the primary source of
computer virii can be handled by their email client alone? That being said,
as a test to my scepticism, i disabled the antivirus altogther and the
problem still exists.

Strange how 2 of my other Vista installs works fine using email protection,
and one of the machines that had the problem now works fine after updating
the Win7 box from build 7022 to build 7057.

Re: WLMail Startup after updating WLMessenger

Same here - uninstalling antivirus did not resolve the issue. The only
work-around I have found is to repeatedly re-set windows live mail as default
mail program through the control panel option "Set program access and
defaults." This never happened prior to latest WLM update.
