Vista - Cannot read old emails

I use windows live on my laptop to download email from my internet provider
based email address (Virgin Media) and I have them saved in various
categories in folders. I recently attempted to access an old email to
retrieve some information and the following message came up;

Message cannot be found
The contents of this message cannot be found.

Windows Live Mail

I then attempted to look for the rest of my saved mail and cannot read
anything that I have received prior to 1st March 2009.

Where has all my mail gone? I have some important information that I need
to access and some saved invoices that I need to print out. Can anyone help
me??

Are these under Storage Folders, or within a Mail account?

If a Mail Account, is it POP3, IMAP or HTTP?
