| | Hundreds of unread mail inaccesible: Google account The Quick View "Unread email" shows hundreds of unread mail. I've read the mail already and I just want the view to show the correct number of unread mail. Selecting that quick view give me a long list of Email headers. Trying to access any one of them displays the following error in the preview pane: <snip> Message could not be displayed Windows Live Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again. </snip> Double clicking on any item returns the following error message: "There was an error opening this message. An error has occurred" Anyone else experiencing this, or better yet, knows the solution to this puzzle? |

| | Re: Hundreds of unread mail inaccesible: Google account Hi Christian, Sorry, tried that scenario and it seems to work ok for me. Even went back to mail from 2007 and it worked. Can you tell from the headers if they might have been deleted or junked. I seem to vaguely remember this kind of problem with one of the beta versions. You've got the current version with updates, right? I am still not sure checking Get xx headers at a time in Tools, Options, Read is working right and Use Newsgroup Communities support features still seems to be iffy. The other thing it might be is the Quick views being broken, which is apparently fixed on every 5th Open for some unknown reason. -- Good luck, Mike BS - Windows XP Pro 5.1.2600.5512 SP3 - IE 8.0.6001.18702 - AVG Free 8.5.287 - WLM 2009 [Build 14.0.8064.0206] "Christian Anton" <christiananton@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:F680B237-58A8-4159-9088-C9BF5E944069@xxxxxx Quote: > The Quick View "Unread email" shows hundreds of unread mail. Mike, OP mentioned "mail", so tips about news features may not apply. ; ) Quote: > The other thing it might be is the Quick views being broken, which is apparently fixed on every 5th Open for some unknown reason. It would apply if 5 is the number of closes allowed before a compaction request is issued. (E.g. as set in Maintenance dialog.) I don't know what the default is for that. I have mine set at 1 in order to see a prompt each time but the only time I can answer Yes and actually get a compaction done successfully is when I just open and immediately close the app. YMMV. Also, I'm not convinced that compaction is enough to resolve problems with inconsistencies between the message cache and the index. Supposedly we could just delete or rename the Mail.MSMessageStore in various methods of replacing or rebuilding the index... http://www.microsoft.com/communities...1eb&sloc=en-us http://www.microsoft.com/communities...057&sloc=en-us http://www.microsoft.com/communities...cb0&sloc=en-us (Alt-7 search for mail.msmessagestore delete MVP ) Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything "official" to endorse these procedures (e.g. as a KB article), so caveat emptor. Like R.C. I'm getting exasperated by WLMail evidently missing writes, and I'm getting tired of continually checking that its I/O activity has quiesced before closing it as way of trying to avoid that problem, so I may end up trying something like this anyway.
