| | Unable to Start Windows Live Mail This week I have had problems in starting Windows Live Mail. I will click on the link in the Start Menu, the cursor will go round and round and then disappear. I will click on the link in the All Programs menu, the cursor goes round and round and then disappears. Sometimes when I restart my computer it will start up when clicked on - but not each time. I am running Vista Home Premium SP1. A friend of mine has been having the same problem and she is running XP Home. What's the fix? I like the program because it allows me to access all of the emails we use in one spot. Windows Live Hotmail is okay, but I much prefer Windows Live Mail. Please Help! Thanks Maggie |

| | Re: Unable to Start Windows Live Mail When WLMail won't start, check in Windows Task Manager->Processes [tab] (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to see if its process (wlmail.exe) is still running. If so, then end the process and re-start WLMail. This is probably a symptom one of the shut down bugs affecting WLMail. You need to reboot Windows or end the currently running 'wlmail.exe' process using Windows Task Manager before WLMail will re-start. So far, only one shutdown bug fix has been identified: If your Blocked or Safe Senders list contains an address with an illegal character (such as ~ or |), WLMail will fail to shutdown correctly. So check your Blocked and Safe Senders lists (easier through the WLHotmail web UI) for email addresses with with illegal characters, and remove them from the list, or clear the lists completely to be sure. The list of *legal* non-alphanumerical characters is: _ ' - + = & There are also restrictions on the domain portion of email addresses - it can't start or end with a dot for example. Domains longer than 256 characters, and addresses longer than 512 characters are considered illegal. -- Cheers, Peter.R (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live Mail 2009 14.0.8064.0206) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare "Maggie" <dm1218@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:eN#68dXrJHA.496@xxxxxx Quote: > This week I have had problems in starting Windows Live Mail. | | Re: Unable to Start Windows Live Mail Thank you Peter - that did the trick. I ended the wlmail.exe process (which I don't quite understand why it was still running after I ended the program) and restarted WLM and it started right up - no need to reboot the computer. I hope the bug gets taken care of soon for those who are being affected with the problem and don't kinow what to do. -- Debra "Peter.R" wrote: Quote: > > When WLMail won't start, check in Windows Task Manager->Processes [tab] (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to see if its process (wlmail.exe) is still running.
