| | Re: error message when reading newsgroups Low memory is rarely the problem. What sort of Internet connection do you have? If you've lost your Internet connection, that can cause error message. Also, if it's been several minutes since you downloaded any news headers or any news bodies, you can get that error. News server are designed for intermittent activity. You make a logical connection to the news server, download some headers, read a bit, download some articles, read a bit, etc. You keep an open connection during this, so as to avoid the overhead of establishing a connection for each article. But the server has to eventually disconnect idle sessions to avoid overload. This tends to be about a 5 to 20 minute idle time. The news server administrator sets this disconnect time. (This is separate from any physical Internet connection). IF you've exceeded the idle disconnect time, then you may get that error message on the next action. But if you retry it will work. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Sul@xxxxxx" <sulxxx@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uM$gcBcrJHA.5912@xxxxxx Quote: > very often this is encountered; > > Message could not be displayed > Windows Live Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying > this message. | | Re: error message when reading newsgroups After analyzing a logfile from Windows Live Mail for newsgroups activity, I'd say that WLM is more likely to disconnect connections from its end than wait for the server to do it. It disconnects connections that have been idle for only about 15 seconds. Still, it's a good idea for the server to do it eventually if something goes wrong with the connection before WLM can tell it that it's disconnecting. No idea if WLM has any setting that allows adjusting this time to drop idle connections.
