Cannot access Live Essentials in Add/Remove

XP Pro, SP3

After reading various posts re WLM, I decided to see exactly what
elements of Windows Live Essentials I had installed. I know I have WLM,
WL Messenger and WL Call because they show in my Start Menu>Program
Files under Windows Live (not WL Essentials).

Thought the best way was to go to Add/Remove and click Change/Remove to
see a list of other stuff I may have installed and forgotten about.

WLE is showing 76.74MB.

However, after clicking Change/Remove, WLE displays in a light grey
colour and after a few seconds it turns dark grey and does not display
any dialogue box and I do not get any "Access denied" warnings.

Have made sure that WLM is exited, closed all windows and even
temporarily disabled my AV (Avast).

Also running:
Widows firewall
Malwarebytes (no Real-Time protection)
Superantispyware (no Real-Time protection)
Spybot S&D (NOT immunised)
Spywareblaster (only cookies and ActiveX protected)

My original idea was purely out of interest but now I am wondering what
I would have to do if I DID want to uninstall. Any ideas?

Re: Cannot access Live Essentials in Add/Remove

WLE has to connect to the Internet to display the install/uninstall - repair
option. Where you online?

Re: Cannot access Live Essentials in Add/Remove

Yes, I was online in that I have LAN connection. Just tried again with
WLM open and connected and still get the same result.

Are we both talking about the WLE entry in Control Panel>Add/Remove
programmes?

Re: Cannot access Live Essentials in Add/Remove

Yes
The box appears to uninstall or repair without being connected to the
Internet.
When the box is showing, wlarp.exe is running.

Re: Cannot access Live Essentials in Add/Remove

It won't run by just typing in Run: 'wlarp.exe'

Try: C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Installer\wlarp.exe

If you can, run the 'Repair' option to hopefully fix the problem.

Re: Cannot access Live Essentials in Add/Remove

Problem solved.

It may have been because I installed some of the components piecemeal.

This time I went to the Live Essentials website and downloaded again.

Ran installer (it told me WLM and WL Messenger were already installed)
but I let it install all the other stuff I don't need as well.

After reboot, I was able to access the program in Add/Remove and ran
"Repair".

Will go back later and get rid of all the unnecessary stuff.

Thanks for your help.
