    Problems shutting down Mail...

I have been having a problem when I shut down Live Mail, it does not
completly shut down, it leaves the MLMAIL.EXE running. So when I try to
restart Live Mail it does not come up. I have to Shutdown MLMAIL.EXE, before
restarting Live Mail. Any one else having this problem?

I have the same problem if I start WLM immediately after closing it. If I
wait a couple of minutes it starts OK

I have the same problem with wlmail.exe staying in memory after closing the
program. I do not finding it resolving itself by letting it be. I run Vista
Home Prem 64-Bit. Windows Live Mail Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8064.0206)

Some anti-virus programs have been known to cause this problem if they
    are set to scan e-mail.

With some anti-virus (and anti-spam) programs, simply disabling the
e-mail scanning function doesn't really disable it. It simply tells the
program not to flag any messages. It still processes all the messages
and may still cause problems. What you may need to do is uninstall the
anti-virus program, then reinstall it using a custom install option and
unselect the e-mail scanning component for installation.

As long as your anti-virus software is set to scan files as they are
opened, scanning e-mail as it downloads or sends is unnecessary and
    prone to problems.

Try changing your compaction interval to 1 and then tell us
if you get the prompt each time you close.

Also, whatever you do don't try killing the task (e.g. with Task Manager)
if it is still doing something, e.g. if the WLMail.exe I/O Writes count
is still increasing or while the Virtual Memory statistic is dropping.
Those are signs that it is still cleaning up after your close request,
so aborting too soon could lead to corruption.

    Good luck

    Re: Problems shutting down Mail...

Setting compacting interval to one has initially seemed to fix the problem.
However, this appears to be a real bug. Running a quad-core with 8 gigs of
ram, I don't really believe that windows Live mail was actually doing
anything 15 minutes after closing the program. Whatever it is, it needs to
be fixed. The problem was also present on my notebook running core 2 duo
7250 with 4gb ram. For some reason, windows live mail acts like some of my
relatives and deludes itself into thinking it is at work - even when it quit
    doing anything constructive long ago.

I'm running Windows Live One Care so, whatever the underlying issue, it's a
    Microsoft issue.

And do you think that that would have been after seeing a prompt or not?

Same here. I once had only 1 Live Mail icon visible when the application
was open. Now I have 2 icons: one near the pearl and one near the audio
icon. When I close the WLM application the icon near the pearl disappears,
however, the icon near the audio remains visible and continues to notify of
new emails. If I exit from this icon I have difficulty starting WLM again.

I have the same security software as when I had only the one icon.

Does Pearl mean the Windows Vista Orb ?
Does near the audio icon mean in the Notification area(formerly called the Systray) ?
