| | Re: Prevent WLM to import Windows Mail Accounts Not explicitly. I believe there is a registry hack where you can fool Windows Live Mail into believing it is not running for the first time. Sorry, I don't recall the exact registry key. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Thomas Steinbach" <steinbach@xxxxxx-topmail.de> wrote in message news:%23$uVZyN3JHA.5276@xxxxxx Quote: > is there no such switch? > > Thomas |

| | Re: Prevent WLM to import Windows Mail Accounts For Outlook Express, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{9754006D-2A61-47BF-8B5D-097A0A6CA84C}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 has a key, Migration done. There are also other keys under the OE Identities key dealing with Windows Live Mail. In XP Registry, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail, there is a key, First Run Done with a value of (1). If that is the key, then you would have to install WLMail and do the Registry hack before starting WLMail. -- Ron Sommer "Gary VanderMolen" <gary@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:u8d1m9X3JHA.1716@xxxxxx Quote: > Not explicitly. | | Re: Prevent WLM to import Windows Mail Accounts I doubt that there is such a switch, especially since Microsoft does not offer a standalone installer for WLMail. One way to prevent WLMail importing WMail messages and accounts on first opening (if you don't want to delete them in WMail), would be to rename [to 'Windows Mail (old)'] the WMail Message Store*... (If you start WMail with its Message Store renamed, it will create a new one 'tabula rasa'. But no need to do this before installing WLMail). To prevent WLMail importing WMail's settings, rules, signatures etc, you would need to rename or delete the Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail (If you start WMail with this Registry Key renamed, it will create a new one - with its default settings. But no need to do this before installing WLMail). Similarly, to prevent WLMail importing Windows Calendar data, you can rename the Windows Calendar Store**. To prevent WLMail importing Windows Contacts however, you need to delete or rename the contacts (to '[name].contact.bak') within the Windows Contacts Store***. *WMail's Message Store is a directory named 'Windows Mail'. The path to the Message Store, in its default location involves a hidden folder, so ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked under Folder Options in Windows Explorer. To find the location of your message store, go to Tools->Options...->Advanced [tab]->Maintenance->Store Folder. The default Message Store location is: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Mail (C:\Users\[Windows user account]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail) **Windows Calendar Store is a directory named 'Calendars'. The path to the Message Store, in its default location involves a hidden folder, so ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked under Folder Options in Windows Explorer. The Windows Calendar Store location is: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Calendar\Calendars C:\Users\[Windows user account]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Calendar\Calendars ***The Windows Contacts Store location is: C:\Users\[Windows user account]\Contacts -- Cheers, Peter.R (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live Mail 2009 14.0.8064.0206) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare "Thomas Steinbach" <steinbach@xxxxxx-topmail.de> wrote in message news:uMlaLd72JHA.1416@xxxxxx Quote: > Hello, > > I think there was a commandline switch which > prevents windows live mail to import account settings > from windows mail, but can't remember and the > /? switch doesn't work. > Does anybody know this switch? > > Thomas |

| | Re: Prevent WLM to import Windows Mail Accounts Yes, if you change the value of the "First Run Done" key to 1 (before running Windows Live Mail), it should not attempt to import anything from Windows Mail. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Ron Sommer" <rsommer@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23Zzzr0Y3JHA.1380@xxxxxx Quote: > For Outlook Express, > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{9754006D-2A61-47BF-8B5D-097A0A6CA84C}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook > Express\5.0 has a key, Migration done. > There are also other keys under the OE Identities key dealing with Windows > Live Mail. > > In XP Registry, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail, > there is a key, First Run Done with a value of (1). > If that is the key, then you would have to install WLMail and do the > Registry hack before starting WLMail. > -- > Ron Sommer > > "Gary VanderMolen" <gary@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:u8d1m9X3JHA.1716@xxxxxx Quote: >> Not explicitly. | | Re: Prevent WLM to import Windows Mail Accounts I just tested this scenario and found the following: A fresh install of WLMail does not create the 'Windows Live Mail' Registry Key at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ until WLMail is first run. Creating this Key and the DWORD Value 'First Run Done' with Value Data = '1' prevents import of accounts and messages from WMail, and contacts from Windows Contacts. Also Creating the DWORD Value 'First Calendar Run Done' with Value Data = '1' prevents import of Windows Calendar calendars. -- Cheers, Peter.R (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live Mail 2009 14.0.8064.0206) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare "Gary VanderMolen" <gary@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:#jlj4gd3JHA.3544@xxxxxx Quote: > Yes, if you change the value of the "First Run Done" key to 1 (before > running Windows Live Mail), it should not attempt to import anything > from Windows Mail. > > -- > Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) > > > "Ron Sommer" <rsommer@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23Zzzr0Y3JHA.1380@xxxxxx Quote: Quote: >> For Outlook Express, >> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{9754006D-2A61-47BF-8B5D-097A0A6CA84C}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook >> Express\5.0 has a key, Migration done. >> There are also other keys under the OE Identities key dealing with Windows >> Live Mail. >> >> In XP Registry, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail, >> there is a key, First Run Done with a value of (1). >> If that is the key, then you would have to install WLMail and do the >> Registry hack before starting WLMail. >> -- >> Ron Sommer >> >> "Gary VanderMolen" <gary@xxxxxx> wrote in message >> news:u8d1m9X3JHA.1716@xxxxxx Quote: Quote: Quote: >>> Not explicitly.
