| | Reading Pane Safety The Layout menu has an option to use the reading pane to see information about a sender or message without opening it. How does that work? Is that a safe way to prevent spammers from getting an acknowledgement that they have reached a valid e-mail address? -- Chambro |

| | Re: Reading Pane Safety A message in the reading pane is being opened, just not in its own window. It's a matter of semantics, i.e., how you define 'opening'. | | Re: Reading Pane Safety Thank you for your reply. I was not trying to preview the message in the Junk e-mail folder, but the fact that you can't, as you pointed out, tells me that the reading pane does in fact open the message and therefore is not a secure way to preview the message or its sender. As far as I know, clicking on properties of a message allows you to see it in plain text form and therefore should be safe, but again, I am not sure of this. -- Chambro "Peter.R" wrote: Quote: > > For safety reasons, you cannot preview a message in the Junk e-mail folder. > > -- > Cheers, > Peter.R > (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live Mail 2009 14.0.8064.0206) > "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare > > "Chambro" <Chambro@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:10E28D2F-341A-4F52-A0D9-6B35B9D3AB0B@xxxxxx > Quote: > > If it is not being opened then the reading pane is NOT the same as opening > > the message and the reading pane should be a secure means of inspecting a > > message before opening it. | | Re: Reading Pane Safety Thank you for your reply. I agree with you. There is no security in opening a message in the reading pane. The message presented in the pop-up is mis-leading and gives a false sense of security. As far as I know, the only way to safely preview a message is to look at its properties which is presented in plain text. Thanks again. -- Chambro "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: Quote: > A message in the reading pane is being opened, just not in its own window. > It's a matter of semantics, i.e., how you define 'opening'. > The security implications are the same either way. > > -- > Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) > > > "Chambro" <Chambro@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:10E28D2F-341A-4F52-A0D9-6B35B9D3AB0B@xxxxxx Quote: > > If it is not being opened then the reading pane is NOT the same as opening > > the message and the reading pane should be a secure means of inspecting a > > message before opening it.
