Try the POP3 version: http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog...33!49799.entry Use port 587 rather than port 25 for the SMTP server. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Larz" <Larz@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:199C663C-912F-482F-86B2-00FF88ACAC97@xxxxxx Quote: > when i open windows live mail on my desktop, i get the following error message, > > Unable to send or receive messages for the Msn (suesbooks4u) account. > Windows Live Mail can't connect to the Hotmail server. Any DSL settings would only affect the actual Internet connection, and not the server connection. If you were referring to the advice to change from HTTPMail to POP3, you would have to remove the HTTPMail account first. And be advised that POP3 normally defaults to deleting email from the server on download. If you need to keep your email on the server, check your account properties for the option to leave messages on the server. The option should be checked to leave the messages on the server. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

| | Re: unable to send and receive email from msn account for 6 days ! ! Hmm...I've quite a few accounts and have found the http server to be as reliable as pop3. At one time pop3 and http accounts(WebDAV) were stored on different servers. That ceased a few years ago...circa Hotmail Plus regaining pop3 capability which also coincided with existing legacy pop3 accounts made capable of WebDAV access. The accounts might be housed in different storage bins, now with free pop3 and accounts provisioned for all types afaik access for all three types(pop, deltasync, webDAV)goes to the same place. The exception are Live.com accounts which are not capable of WebDAV. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "Gary VanderMolen" <gary@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:Om62cSX4JHA.1716@xxxxxx Quote: > The HTTP server is often unreliable. | | Re: unable to send and receive email from msn account for 6 days ! ! winston, I don't remember that setting being the default in earlier versions. Has it always been that way? I added a pop account to check the setting. 'My server requires authentication' has been added to the setup. I haven't setup a new account for a while. Before you added the account, then went to properties and checked 'My server requires authentication'. -- Ron Sommer "...winston" <winstonmvp@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uOXnTIa4JHA.3544@xxxxxx Quote: > Fyi...the default for a new pop3 account setup in WLM is to Leave Messages > on the server > > > -- > ...winston > ms-mvp mail > > "N.
