Backing up desktop live mail client

I do not see any options for backing up msgs or contacts from my windows
live desktop client. Is this not possible?

How to Backup Windows Live Mail Accounts, Contacts and Messages
http://liveunplugged.spaces.live.com...90CA!174.entry

Additionally, third party software(fee based, though trial[tryout] versions) applications are available.
e.g.

http://ajsystems.com/winmailbackup/wmb.html

Static Backup has versions of their programs that are free
indefinitely. Go to http://www.staticbackup.com/downloads.htm
and scroll down to where it says Free Version.

Re: Backing up desktop live mail client

Third Party Software is OK but..... is there a way to automatically backup
files and setting at regular intervals (incremental) as we have in Microsoft
Office 2007...

Re: Backing up desktop live mail client

No, WLM does not have an automatic backup tool.

I am also not sure if Outlook has one included. Office provides automatic archiving based on user configuration and Office online
provides a backup tool called the Outlook Personal Folders Backup tool...might one of these be the Outlook auto-backup being
referenced ?

Re: Backing up desktop live mail client

why not just back it up manually?
first if you are logging into windows mail it saves all your contacts on
msn.com (hotmail or livemail)
If you do not all you need to do is click on File/Export and export the
messages and account information to a folder on your HD
Also if you go to Contacts and also click on File/Export you can backup
your contacts in a CSV file which will backup all your contacts.
I do this once a month then I back it up to my external hd with the rest of
my documents

Re: Backing up desktop live mail client

Good advice Robin..

A few items for clarity..
One logs in(signs on using a Live ID) to Windows Live not WLM(or Windows Mail, which is included in Vista but not capable of
accessing Hotmail using the http protocol)

File/Export/Messages requires a blank folder.
