| | Deleting Newsgroup Messages Is there any way to delete/purge newsgroup headers and messages after a set amount of days? I have tried setting a number of days under Options/Adv/Maint to 5 days after downloading the message but nothing happens. I am subscribed to this newsgroup and my messages have been accumulating for a few months. I know I can delete them manually but maybe I am overlooking something. Thanks, ron |

| | Re: Deleting Newsgroup Messages Although it's not entirely clear from the Maintenance option, that setting refers to the message bodies only. The headers remain. It's been that way since Outlook Express. If your concern is disk space, then the message body is the bulk of the space and that setting would be helping you. If you also want to get rid of the headers, you can semi-automate that by using a News message rule to delete messages after a given number of days. But you'll need to manually apply it from time to time (e.g. once per week). If you have multiple new accounts (news servers) you'll need to apply to each news server in turn. If you do nothing, the news messages (including headers) will be deleted when the news server does. In the case of the Microsoft news server that's after 90 days. Other news servers have their own policies and it might be shorter or longer. It may even vary by newsgroup. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Ron" <ronco@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:#aji0gq5JHA.6004@xxxxxx Quote: > Is there any way to delete/purge newsgroup headers and messages after > a set amount of days? | | Re: Deleting Newsgroup Messages Click on "View" in the Menu, now click the "Hide read or ignored messages" tab. Go back to Newsgroup you were reading and right click it, now click the "Catch Up" tab and all of the old messages will be gone. You will have to do this for all of your subscribed to newsgroups to get rid of all the old or ignored msgs.
