| | How to apply message rules ? Live mail works fine, but i cannot find how to apply "rules" to incoming e-mail. I want some mails automatically to be posted in a specific folder, depending on the identity of the sender. I used this rules in Mail en since I started using Live Mail, it still uses the same rules, so works fine, but I do not know how to create new rules in the future. Sorry for my English, hope someone can help me out with this. Wim |

| | Re: How to apply message rules ? Hi, Wim. In WLMail, click Tools. (If you don't see "Tools" it's because the WLM Team decided to hide the Menu Bar by default. To see it momentarily, just press <Alt>; to toggle it on, click the little icon just left of the "?" and choose Show Menu Bar.) From the Tools menu choose Message Rules | Mail. Take a quick look at the box showing the contents of your existing rules, then click New to create a new rule. Most of the steps for Rule creation are intuitive, but a couple of points may need clarification. First, when you've specified all your criteria, be sure to scroll down the list of Actions and click "Stop processing more rules". This is easily overlooked and its omission often produces unexpected results. Second, to test your new Rule, click Apply Now. The next screen is self-explanatory, but note that the default is to "Apply to...Storage folders". If you have moved already-received messages to Storage folders, this might be what you want: to move them from where you've put them to where you want them to be. But most of the time, we want the new rule to apply to new, unsorted messages in our Inbox - or multiple Inboxes, if we have multiple mail accounts. So you may want to Browse to each of your Inboxes and Apply Now to each of them. Future messages, of course, will be sorted automatically by your new Rule. RC -- R. C. The reason that I need the Menu bar showing is that part of my routine for entering newsgroups involves toggling off the Folder pane and I need to do that with my mouse on a toolbar button. These are steps that both OE and WinMail make unnecessary because in them the same procedure is automatic. Then I like to see what is happening in my Watched threads (which are not necessarily just my Ctrl-h threads), so that's why I need to have the View menu accessible to my mouse. Quote: > Even when there was a Views bar, years ago, the option to see only "My > threads" was never available on it. :^{ Nor was there a convenient way to toggle threading on and off. Only Alt-V,V,G. It only took a few months for me to retrain myself when that gratuitous change to the UI occurred in v14. (Alt-V,V now toggles threading and Alt-V,o is used to get into the Views list.) Meanwhile the original UI lives on in both OE and WinMail. This and other unnecessary incompatibilities cause me to make annoying mental checks every time I need to use them in WLMail but fortunately I am making fewer mistakes as a result. Robert --- |
