Can't send email.

I have multiple email addresses with Roadrunner. Everything had been
working fine until yesterday. Now I cannot send emails through ONE of the
accounts. I can receive from all of them. I had deleted the account &
reinput it in Windows Live Mail. Still the same problem. Can receive, but
can't send. I have talked to Roadrunner & they say it is a problem with
Windows Live Mail, not them.

Windows XP SP3
Windows Live Mail: Build 14.0 8064 0206

Thanks

Re: Can't send email.

Do you get an error message when you try to send? If so,
right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

Try changing the Outgoing to port 587 instead of 25

Re: Can't send email.

It is not likely that the mail.kevo.com server supports SSL.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced,
then uncheck the SSL option. If after doing that you still get an error
message, post the new error message.

Lol...probably not...but reading at kevo.com<g>, they do have an approval system called Editorial Karma and a 'tricky' internal

Re: Can't send email.

This could be caused by your own firewall, if you're using a
third-party one. Try disabling it while enabling the Windows one and
see if the problem persists.

This does not appear to be a problem caused by Windows Live Mail, unless you
have some kind of RTF signature triggering a server-side block. Something
has triggered the server to disable your access to their server, and you
probably need to be in contact with Road Runner to sort out what it is.

You may simply have triggered a block by exceeding their message submission
rate; many ISP mail servers place limits by message/recipient count. One
message to 100 recipients ('Cc:', or 'Bcc:') would be the same as 100
messages to one recipient (per message). So, if the limit is 50 messages per
hour, a single message to 100 recipients could trigger a block. Road Runner
may not give you an exact number (if the spammers knew the exact numbers,
they'd adjust their send rate to 'limit-1' messages), but they should be
able to tell you if the block was triggered by exceeding the limit.

Re: Can't send email.

Which firewall software are you running?
If it is non-Microsoft, I suggest uninstalling it on a trial basis
to see if that clears the error. Just disabling is often not sufficient.

Re: Can't send email.

The Server Response: 554 Disabled by HIPS Firewall
is presumably coming from 'smtp-server.indy.rr.com'
in which case the SMTP server has problems.

Or what may be more likely is that your anti-virus is set to scan
outgoing e-mail and it has inserted itself between WLM and the real mail
server. In that case the message is from your anti-virus and it is
saying that the firewall is blocking the anti-virus software on port 25.

Disabling anti-virus doesn't necessarily stop it from scanning e-mail.
It just stops it from flagging any as a virus. And it's possible
depending on how it was installed to only be scanning one account.

With some anti-virus (and anti-spam) programs, simply disabling the
e-mail scanning function doesn't really disable it. It simply tells the
program not to flag any messages. It still processes all the messages
and may still cause send/receive problems. What you may need to do is
uninstall the anti-virus program, then reinstall it using a custom
install option and unselect the e-mail scanning component for
installation.
