WLM "there was a problem sending the command to the program"

    Hi all,

I wonder if you can advise me on the above problem?

I am using Windows 7 RC and Windows Live Mail vers 2009.

Every time I click on a hyperlink in an email I get the above error
(including the obligatory clanging error nose).

It will launch Internet explorer but the page is blank.

I'm guessing its a security thing misconfigured but to be honest I have gone
with the default settings if not slackened them off.

Please advise as its driving me bonkers

    Thanks in advance

Please check with View Source (e.g. press Alt-V,c)
to see what your symptom description really means.

    Hi Robert,

Thanks for your reply, really appreciate you taking the time to do so.

I am currently trying to recreate the problem but annoyingly it is working
at present. HOWEVER, I know it wasn't earlier ths evening.

From memory you get the message in an IE confirmation box. The program
launches and displays About:Blank in the bottom left hand corner so I dont'
know if there would be any source to see in this instance.

I found that I get a blank page first and then click the erroneous link
    again and it launches correctly.

    Its clearly not right.

Any suggestions would be greatly apprciated, when it does it next I will
grab the source HTML and paste it to you

    Thanks

    Gareth

If About:Blank is what you are clicking on then no there would be
no point in trying to see its source. Your symptom description
implied a more general instance of "blank" page IMO.

Without seeing any details who knows? Your symptom description
now suggests that you could be seeing a blocked popup.
Then when you relaunch the link the site may be programmed
not to bother trying to show you another popup but just the desired
    page. Etc.

Re: WLM "there was a problem sending the command to the program"

This seems to be a systemic problem because I get the same thing occasionally in Word (2007) and Publisher. I will launch the app by clicking on the document I want to edit and, for example, Word will launch and present me with this error, loading no document. If I close it and try again, it always works properly, and for the rest of the day.

I suspect that these two problems are related and they have to do with "Windows Explorer" not Internet Explorer or Word.

Any further thoughts with this data?

How are you launching the opening of an email in WLM ?
    - within WLM or from the message in a Windows Explorer Window

    or
Since you mentioned Internet Explorer are you referring to opening messages in the web interface(mail.live.com)

I'm not using WLM, but I do have it installed. All I'm saying is that when I launch a word doc for the first time after a reboot, I get this error message, and the Doc does not load, although Word does. Then I close Word and repeat the steps all over again, and everything opens successfully from that point on.

It does not seem to ever happen when I compose or reply in outlook - Interesting thought, as I use Word as the mail editor!

Anyway, not a major problem for me, but as Steve Martin says, it is better to have sought a fix...than to not.

This is the Windows Live Mail newsgroup...since this occurs in word independent of WLM, you might consider seeking help in the Word
    newsgroup.
