importing from Outlook 2007 into WLM

I recently got a new computer, and I saved all my old outlook mail into a
..pst file, thinking I would use that to get it onto my new computer and into
    WLM. Nope.

So then I installed the latest version of Outlook 2007 trial, and I was able
to get that .pst file into Outlook 2007, but I still can't get the messages
into WLM. I've tried dragging and dropping, double dragging and dropping,
every time I try these things, WLM just wants to create a new message filling
out the To: field with the email messages - it totally gets screwed up.

I was able to import my contacts, because I could export/import a comma
separated file, but I don't really understand why I can't do the same thing
with the messages, or just import my .pst file. And I don't really understand
why this is so difficult? Please help!

My copy of Windows Live Mail (Version 2009, Build 14.0.8064.0206) only
    offers to import from:

    | Microsoft Outlook Express 6
    | Windows Live Mail
    | Windows Mail

No other application is listed. You may need to seek assistance in the MS
Outlook (***NOT*** 'Outlook Express'!) forums. I have no clue how one might
export messages from MS Outlook in a manner that WLMail could access; unless
it is to save each email as a .eml file. Then you could drag the file to an
open WLMail folder, and drop it. Which could be a painstakingly long process
if Outlook can't save messages by group.

Re: importing from Outlook 2007 into WLM

Earlier versions of WLM could import an Outlook .pst file, if Outlook was
    installed.
    The current version can not.

If you are using Vista, you can import the messages from the .pst file into
    Windows Mail, then
import them from WM into WLM.

Re: importing from Outlook 2007 into WLM

There was a bug where converting messages between Outlook and WLM caused all
header information to be stripped. I appears that in lieu of fixing the bug
they simply removed the offending conversion.

Import the messages into Windows Mail, then import into Windows Live Mail.

Re: importing from Outlook 2007 into WLM

Yeah, see, why doesn't the latest version of WLM support import from the
latest version of Outlook? They're both microsoft mail programs. I don't get
    it.

There's no way that I can see to save a message in Outlook 7 to .eml format.
    So that won't work.

Re: importing from Outlook 2007 into WLM

I'm not using Vista, I'm using the Windows 7 beta. If there's a way I could
get Windows Mail installed, I could try importing from that. But is there any
place to download this? Or anywhere to download Outlook 6? The only Outlook I
could get to try and get my emails in is Outlook 7, which obviously doesn't
    work for WLM.

Windows Mail functions on Windows 7 RC. You have to navigate to
%programfiles%\windows mail and unhide the executable. If this does not
work then copy the Windows Mail directory from a Vista installation or
extract it from your Vista system image that you prudently made, before
    installing the beta.

Windows Mail will work on Win 7, I've got it running.
The easiest way is to copy the files from a Vista computer, or you can DL
    the files here..
