I just started getting an "unknown error has occurred" when I try to delete
any message in my inbox. Any ideas on how I can "uncorrupt" my inbox?

right-click on the account name and select Properties. On the
Server(s) tab, the first line under Server Information will tell
you.
Meanwhile, try forcing a re-indexation of the database: go to [Toolsdatabase on shutdown' is selected with 'every n runs' set to 1. OK

Answer Yes to the dialogue that appears. If you get an error message
at that stage, dismiss it, wait a minute and restart WLMail. Select
a different folder in the Folder pane, then File > Exit again (still
working offline).

System Restore does not fix the problem.

1) It's a POP3 Server
2) Re-indexing of the database (per the below) doesn't seem to fix the
problem.
3) System Restore " " " "
4) Only my user account in WLMail is screwed up. Other users on the same
computer aren't having any problems.

Also, if I exit WLMail and try to restart it, nothing happens. I have to
reboot to get back in WLMail.

That problem occurs, when WLMail has not closed down completely
and is still running in the background..
Advice at
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...774877ec?pli=1 -
suggests a possible cause.
The following workaround avoids the need to reboot. If you can't
restart WLMail, open Task Manager and go to "Processes". Select
wlmail.exe and end the Process.

Either could be risky, especially while a compaction of a corrupted
index was being done. I say always make sure that WLMail
is not writing then and wait until it is quiesced before killing the task.

Try to find out how corrupt it is. E.g. for a start how many messages
does WLMail show there are in that folder with View Show All Messages?
Then navigate to the Inbox subdirectory and do a dir to see how many
messages there really are there.
BTW I'm not sure that just compacting the index actually resynchronizes
the message store. E.g. I had some message listed in my Drafts folder
which did not exist and those errors consistently survived multiple compactions
for months.
So I think that you could see your symptom (problems with "any message")
if the index was showing you that it had a bunch of messages in that folder
but when you actually do a dir in the subdirectory which implements that view
there are none (or perhaps they have been marked in some way to make them
undeletable.) Etc.
Good luck
