| | First letter of words displayed as "=" in Sent Items There are "=" characters that replaces the first letter of some words on my sent e-mails. I'm using Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail 14.0.8064.0206. Not having problems in OE, but in some mails in Windows Live Mail the first characters of some words are displayed as "=" . The issue exists only for composed and sent items (from my Hotmail accounts configured in Outlook Express) by me before using Windows Live Mail. - The affected messages are only the ones that were imported from Outlook Express into Windows Live Mail. How to fix the first letter of words displayed as "=" viewing e-mails in Windows Live Mail? Thanks in advance. ___________________ Exemple: If you purchase new ram, a new or used =omputer or experience crashes and bluescreens you should definitely test the memory =installed on your computer to make sure that it is running without =rrors. Faulty memory is one of the main reasons for instability. The first task =hould be to make sure that the memory is correctly inserted into the memory =anks. Make sure you count the number of bars and check if you are running dual =hannel mode or not. Download the free software Memtest86+ as an =so image (currently Memtest 3.3 iso) and burn it to a compact disk. Reboot your =omputer afterwards and boot the CD that you just created. You might need to =hange the boot order in your bios to be able to boot from CD. ___________________ ENCODINGS AND LANGUAGES - Windows Live Mail & Outlook Express Default encoding: Turkish (Windows) (Includes all English characters) International encoding: Not using the Default Encoding for incoming messages - HTML Settings in Windows Live Mail & Outlook Express "Encode text using" under MIME message format (Tools>Options>Send) is set to Quoted Printable using Base 64 - IE8 Encoding: Authomatically choose (Box is filled) and Turkish is chosen - Internet Options Languages: Turkish English (USA) Fonts: Latin - Control Pannel Region and Language Options: Turkish I tried several encodings including "English-UTF-ISO-User defined" but none helped. The problem appears both in turkish and english written messages. |

| | Re: First letter of words displayed as "=" in Sent Items Take a look at the Message Source (Ctrl-F3) for the problem messages. Is there more than just an = at the beginning of those words? Also while looking at the message source are these plain text or HTML messages? If plain text are they MIME or Uuencode? If you really want to fix them - Do a File, Save As to save the message to an *.EML file, or drag-and-drop the message to Windows folder - Then edit the file in Notepad or other text editor. Edit the source to fix he problem. - Save the file. - You can drag-and-drop the message back to an WLM folder. - You can then delete the original message. What exactly needs to be edited to fix the problem depends on the exact problem. If you would like, you may send me one of the problem messages that you received and I'll take a look at it. It's best if you zip the message so that I get an exact copy of it. To do that, do a File, Save As to an EML file of a problem message. Then Right click the saved EML file and select Send To, Compressed (zipped) folder. Then e-mail me the resulting ZIP file. Alternately, you can do a Message, Forward As Attachment of a problem message. This is not as good as the zip file since the headers can be modified in transit which may obscure the problem. A simple Forward is worthless since it does not include the headers. e-mail: michael_santovec@xxxxxx -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Yasar" <yasar@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:9CEB6A8B-AECA-4956-8953-68F4BCF83F43@xxxxxx Quote: > There are "=" characters that replaces the first letter of some words > on my > sent e-mails. > > I'm using Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail 14.0.8064.0206. > Not having problems in OE, but in some mails in Windows Live Mail the > first > characters of some words are displayed as "=" . > > The issue exists only for composed and sent items (from my Hotmail > accounts > configured in Outlook Express) by me before using Windows Live Mail. > > - The affected messages are only the ones that were imported from > Outlook > Express into Windows Live Mail. > > How to fix the first letter of words displayed as "=" viewing e-mails > in > Windows Live Mail? > > Thanks in advance. > ___________________ > Exemple: > If you purchase new ram, a new or used =omputer or experience crashes > and > bluescreens you should definitely test the memory =installed on your > computer > to make sure that it is running without =rrors. | | Re: First letter of words displayed as "=" in Sent Items I got the files that you sent. The EML file that you say is from OE displays correctly in WLM. The one that you say is from WLM has the same problem in either WLM or or OE. How did you import the problem messages originally from OE? Something went wrong. The problem is the end of line characters in the files. DOS/Windows text files use a carriage return (hex 0D) followed by a Line Feed (hex 0A). Internet standards also require this for mail and news posts, regardless of the operating system. Unix/Linux text files use just the Line feed. Mac text files use just the carriage return. The OE EML file is valid and has the carriage return/line feed combination. The WLM EML file is a Unix file and has only the line feed. Also curious, the "message source_WLM.txt" file that you included has only carriage returns. Are you using a Unix based system? -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Yasar" <yasar@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:1F56014B-D672-4440-9E88-5315D9F08FC1@xxxxxx Quote: > Thank you ! > > I've sent you the zipped message now. > > "Michael Santovec" wrote: > Quote: >> Take a look at the Message Source (Ctrl-F3) for the problem messages. >> Is there more than just an = at the beginning of those words? >> >> Also while looking at the message source are these plain text or HTML >> messages? >> >> If plain text are they MIME or Uuencode? >> >> If you really want to fix them >> - Do a File, Save As to save the message to an *.EML file, or >> drag-and-drop the message to Windows folder >> - Then edit the file in Notepad or other text editor.
