| | Re: How do I stop the transfer and return my email to where they belon Your post doesn't have much to base recommendations on. pop, imap, http account? Are messages still on the server? Email programs download mail to your computer. -- Ron Sommer "Ticked off" <Ticked off@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:022BF2C5-4A33-4355-A378-B10DDFA1C55C@xxxxxx Quote: > All I needed to do was send a message on Craigs List and instead I > transfered > all my emails to this stupid thing and I want them where they came from > and I > want this Windows mail thing to stop. We can't help unless you tell us what your normal mail service provider is. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Ticked off" <Ticked off@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:022BF2C5-4A33-4355-A378-B10DDFA1C55C@xxxxxx Quote: > All I needed to do was send a message on Craigs List and instead I transfered > all my emails to this stupid thing and I want them where they came from and I > want this Windows mail thing to stop. | XP | Re: How do I stop the transfer and return my email to where they belon Greetings community members. I'm a bit of an outsider (XP still, sorry), but I hope I can glean a little help. In short I've exactly the same issue as the original poster. I have a BT Yahoo account which my son has very 'helpfully' redirected to Windows Live mail. When he completed the migration, the entire contents of my inbox was deleted, presumably from the server too. Unfortunately he claims he has no idea what he did (he's a very bright, but typically careless 13 year old... no offence implied or otherwise to similarly inflicted members, but I swear the testosterone has caused serious brain damage), and now I'm struggling to understand how to recover a lot of important stuff. Could anyone help please? Email client: BT Yahoo (btopenworld) Server type: POP3 OP sys: XP Cheers... Paul |

| | Re: How do I stop the transfer and return my email to where they belon Nothing wrong with using XP. A lot of us, myself included, continue to use it. The default with most POP3 clients is to delete messages from the mail server after downloading. In WLM mail, the setting is at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Advanced, Leave a copy on the server. Uncheck the option to sop deleting them. There's no good way to put the messages back on the server. About all you can do forward the messages individually to yourself. But that will alter the sender as well as the date. If you or your son have deleted the account from WLM, that deletes the messages from WLM as well. If that's the case, about all you can do is use an Undelete utility to look for deleted EML files. The longer you wait and the more you use your PC, the less likely you'll be able to recover many. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "tinwep15" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:8f119f9b9f7e62a5d7c5572ac0e07160@xxxxxx-gateway.com... | | Re: How do I stop the transfer and return my email to where they belon "presumably from the server too." I don't understand; haven't you checked via webmail to see if the messages are still on the server? By default the current version of Windows Live Mail does not remove downloaded messages from the server. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "tinwep15" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:8f119f9b9f7e62a5d7c5572ac0e07160@xxxxxx-gateway.com... | XP | Re: How do I stop the transfer and return my email to where they belon Gary, many thanks for your response and sorry for the confusion. My Yahoo Inbox is empty, that much is obvious. Please ignore my ignorance, but how do I "check via webmail" what, if anything, remains on the server? Following my post last night I learnt a little more about Live Mail and and some of what my son did: he downloaded Live mail and tried to set-up a new account for himself on his laptop... but unfortunately (I have my doubts!) used my email address. Why I don't yet know. Checking the properties of the new account, on the Advanced tab, the box to leave a copy of the mail on the server was not ticked. I'm far from being able to say I understand what's going on, but it does look as if the Yahoo server is empty. Mike's suggestion of sending the mail back to myself is something I tried last night too... but although the Live Mail account appears to be able to receive my mail, it refuses to send anything, returning an error: cannot connect to server, error code 0x800CCC0E. I think I'm using the correct server address (mail.btopenworld.com), SMTP, port 25 and I have SSL enabled. Any further thoughts? Many thanks... Paul |

| | Re: How do I stop the transfer and return my email to where they belon You should be able to access your inbox via webmail at http://bt.yahoo.com/webmail To send with btopenworld.com, SSL should *not* be enabled. Check, too, that "My server requires authentication" *is* selected on the Servers tab. -- Noel "tinwep15" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:80483793d8c70a6f725608e7814a16eb@xxxxxx-gateway.com...
