I wonder why Microsoft would assume that our eyes are lousy for the Message Body but they suddenly become perfect when we glance up at the Message List. Surely there is a way? | | Re: Message List size? Any way of enlarging the text size? Hi, Richard. Outlook Express has always been a part of Internet Explorer. So we've always had to use IE's Display Properties and other tools to adjust some features of OE, such as the GUI and print options. Windows Mail "inherited" this arrangement. And, despite many other changes, Windows Live Mail still uses many of the settings from IE. And some settings are "global" and depend on settings in the Windows Control Panel. You didn't say if you are running WinXP or Vista or some other Windows. I'm running Win7 now, so you may not see what I see, but the general idea is the same. I can right-click on my Desktop, choose Personalize, and make many changes to the Display from there. Trouble is, there is not always a clear link between what I want to change and the choices that I see in the Display screens. This has always been a trial-and-error exercise for me. :>{ Maybe someone here knows specifically which tweak will get the result you want. RC -- R. C. | | Re: Message List text size - any way to enlarge or make less faint? Which OS? The font colour of the Message List (in One-line view) can be changed for Read messages. In Vista, it is actually the colour of the Windows 'Disabled Item' Font ('Advanced Appearance' options in Windows 'Display Properties') that corresponds to the colour of 'Read' messages in WLMail (in One-line view). -- Cheers, Peter.R (Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 with IE7 & Windows Live Mail 2009 14.0.8064.0206) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare "Richard Z" <reply.to.group@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:e163D9H#JHA.1380@xxxxxx Quote: > I though I posted this before but maybe not. But having a black background is wonderful. I really need to experiment with backgrounds more. When you have sharp levels of contrast you don't need such a large font. Plus the glare is substantially reduced. Much easier on the eyes. If only we could program each window to open up in the correct background/text size. Thanks for a great tip. |

A "Please Wait" message box appears for quite a while and the screen gradually fades to gray. |

| | Re: Message List text size - any way to enlarge or make less faint? Hi, Richard. Peter and I are talking about the same thing, but I haven't run WinXP in about 3 years so I've forgotten the details of how to get to the Display Properties in XP. Vista is different - and Win7 is more different. Quote: > I can't remember how to get to that....I remember seeing Auto, 1 line or 2 > line view options. arghhhh But the "Disabled Item" font setting that Peter is talking about is NOT in WLM at all! It is in WINDOWS Display Properties. You know, where you set the colors of the borders around the window that has focus. That's why I said I have to use trial and error to find out which item in Windows' Display Properties corresponds with which display element in WLM. Peter has identified at least this one item: Quote: Quote: >> In Vista, it is actually the color of the Windows 'Disabled Item' Font >> ('Advanced Appearance' options in Windows 'Display Properties') that >> corresponds to the color of 'Read' messages in WLMail (in One-line view). adjust something OUTSIDE WLM - in Windows Display Properties. That's what makes this so hard to explain - and to understand - and to do. WLM responds to outside forces for these settings. But it's not new. We always had to do it this way with OE, too. But we forget. Quote: > Must be different for XP. pattern is the same. RC -- R. C. These are the possibilities in that they have font adjustment. So wherever you have the focus, it works there.
