Opening links in Internet Explorer 8

I am using IE 8 and the latest version of Windows live mail. When a web link
is included in an E Mail message and I click on it I get the following
message "Windows cannot find http:....... Make sure you have typed the name
correctly and then try again". The IE 8 window opens but it is completely
blank with no google search facility. I have tried uninstalling both IE8 and
Windows Mail but this has had no effect. If I open IE8 and leave it running
in the background the link facility works fine. I am using Windows XP. I
think the problem arose when I upgraded to IE8 but cannot be sure. Any
solutions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Windows Mail is the Vista email program.
I would cross post your problem to microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general
..
Are you running the latest version of Google Toolbar?
