| | Re: outlook express could not be started That does not install Outlook Express, but only removes access to it. Recheck that option and then open OE and find the location of the Outlook Express message store. (You may need to reboot after this). Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. Right click on the Inbox.dbx folder | Properties, and mark it as Read Only. This will prevent OE from starting. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "Jim in Canada" <warnerjim_60@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uBv6m.1668$dW5.1590@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi. > > Installed Windows Live Mail. > > Imported all my contacts and messages from Outlook Express. | | Re: outlook express could not be started Here is the complete error when I launch Windows Live Mail: Outlook Express Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to initialize the store directory. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. Contact Microsoft support for further assistance. (0x80004005) OK Windows XP Media Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3 Internet Explorer 8 Outlook Express 6 (uninstalled) The error pops up after Live Mail is running as well. The old messages are still in their old folder: C:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express Thinking about moving this folder, but I think a registry change is required. By the way, I received the exact same error when Outlook Express was installed. | | Re: outlook express could not be started Same error(s) pop up. It is as if Windows Live Mail is wanting to "run" Outlook Express (whether physically or behind the scenes) to get some info. | | RE: outlook express could not be started I tried an uninstall of Live Mail, then a fresh re-install. As soon as I start the Live Mail program, Outlook Express complains about not being able to start. Why is Live Mail trying to start Outlook Express? | | RE: outlook express could not be started Another observation: It could not have been a clean reinstall as when I go into the options, I have all my options in there the way I want them. | | Re: outlook express could not be started Still grasping at straws, Jim, but go to Start | Run and type in: msconfig Under the Startup tab, if you see anything relating to Outlook Express or msimn, uncheck it and reboot. Also, (still just a stab), see if anything here is of help. MSIMN Is Still Running After You Quit Outlook Express: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=226313 I have a feeling that the fix is a simple one, I just don't know what it is. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "Jim in Canada" <JiminCanada@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:7D958338-1511-400E-A838-56607177A8C8@xxxxxx Quote: >I tried an uninstall of Live Mail, then a fresh re-install.
