| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Using WLM Storage Folders 1. What's the correct strategy for using WLM storage folders? I have 2 local ISP email accounts and 1 hotmail account. I was thinking of storing emails from all three accounts into one set of folders in the WLM storage folders. Is this a good strategy? Any cons in doing this? 2. Can WLM storage folders in my WinXP Pro desktop be synchronized with WLM storage folders in my Vista laptop? Thanks, Sky |

| | Re: Using WLM Storage Folders Yes. it is a good idea to store important emails external from the account folders. I would create a separate folder for each email account and subfolders if necessary in the Storage folders. The secondary advantage...one can backup just the Storage folders rather than everything. No...you can not sync Storage folders on one machine with another. You can import/export messages from one to the other to maintain a point in time balance. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "Skyzoomer" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:f836d217997b5848748121ca94bc8248@xxxxxx-gateway.com... I can't quite figure out how to sync the storage folders between my desktop and laptop PCs using the import/export messages. I don't want to lose messages or have duplicate messages. Any additional info on how to do this will be much appreciated. Thanks, Sky |

| | Re: Using WLM Storage Folders You don't sync between machines. Duplication is necessary. I.e. no shared resource between machines. If you wish synchronization among multiple machines and the web, restrict your email accounts to Hotmail type accounts(hotmail.com,live.com,msn.com) which mirror the data locally and the Hotmail server. The same account on another machine will show the same. (it does not sync Storage folders). -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "Skyzoomer" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:60dd312938535b8a49722cb4d595cb24@xxxxxx-gateway.com... It also has an IMAP4 server. You can then set up your accounts so they go to the networked IMAP server, instead of the remote POP3 servers. I believe there is at least one other free email server that can work in a similar fashion. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

I believe there is at least one other free email server that can work in a similar fashion. Norman I've currently setup WLM in my desktop and laptop PCs using IMAP. Both my two local ISP email accounts and my hotmail account syncronize perfectly between both PCs. Whatever I do on one is reflected on the other. Your method sounds really good. The apprehension I have in storing all of my emails on a server is if the company went out of business and shut their server down. That's why I want to store emails I want to save on my own PCs. After considering your and Winston's info, I think what I'll do is just use WLM's storage folders in my desktop PC. I'll save precious emails in the storage folders on that one PC and not save any in my laptop. This will save a lot of time and work in trying to keep the storage folders synchronized. The con in doing this compared to your method is that I won't have access to stored emails when I'm using my laptop while on vacation (which is the only time I use my laptop outside of our home). I'll just have to be sure to leave current emails on my local ISP and the hotmail servers prior to going on vacations so I'll have access to them. Any other ideas from anyone are welcome. Thanks, Sky |
