| | 3 different issues - Quick Views, Syncing and RSS Reading Hi ;_; I hate WLM so. I don't know why I have a naive idea MS will listen to people who use it and fix the bloody thing. 1. My Quick Views for Mail are not being updated (unread email, all junk e-mail, unread feeds etc etc). Using Google I see that the advice is to: Quote: > Rebuild your Quick views by deleting the registry Value > "SearchFolderVersion" under the registry key > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail. This will cause > WLMail to rebuild its Quick view data store when it is next started. Now my quick views is totally empty - but I got email all throughout my accounts! 2. "Syncing" messages does not bring up dialog task box showing progress. In order to see the dialog task and error box of WLM checking each email account I needed to select SYNC > EVERYTHING twice (i don't know why - it just had to be twice). Now I have no dialog no matter what, except only if there is an error at the end. Any advice? 3. RSS is really only very simple indeed. Is there any chance that MS will incorporate plugins for the RSS readers so that things like flash movies and other items will display? (or at least a noticeable place holder?) Or is the intention to use Word as the HTML engine (like hurr durr Outlook 2010) and force users to use web based readers to read web based syndications? Thanks :-) |

| | Re: 3 different issues - Quick Views, Syncing and RSS Reading ....winston - you do deserve something for unfailing, responsive, level headed support to this newsgroup. All I can offer is thanks; I hope MS do something more for you. 1. Toggling doesn't work. Quick View is dead. In addition to SearchFolderVersion I notice the following values: SearchFolderLaunchesUntilRebuild SearchFolders1 I wonder if I should delete these as well? 2. Yes- that worked. Odd - but works. 3. I thought so - just hoping for someone from MS to pipe up and say: "What a great idea to improve the Windows experience of the multimedia internet and to interoperate with international and agreed standards! We'll include it right away and upgrade WLM within hours to fix these and all the other problems people have been telling us about for months and months and months!" What kind of fool am I? | | Re: 3 different issues - Quick Views, Syncing and RSS Reading One of your potential problems is that you are having AVG scan your emails. This often causes corruption in email clients, see http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm Your AVG antivirus was probably installed with its default install option. If so, uninstall it, then reinstall, but select 'custom' install, which then allows you to unselect installing its troublesome email scanning module. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Furry Atlas" <furtrash@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:ewo0UERCKHA.5780@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi > > ;_; I hate WLM so. | | Re: 3 different issues - Quick Views, Syncing and RSS Reading Thanks Gary. Actually I am using avast! And it the problem of Quick View not working happened because I stupidly decided to delete a storage folder that I did no longer required. Causing me sadness is that the article discusses Outlook Express - the functional legacy program that Microsoft withdrew support from - and I see that microsoft email stores can be corrupted if users use avast! or other antivirus program to monitor email. Great. I have given up. I am currently migrating to Thunderbird. The only problem I have so far is of course accessing hotmail and live.com mail via thunderbird. Common problem. Investigating solutions. Bloody microsoft - either make an email program that works - or grow up, get out of the way and make it possible for functional programs to access ms webmail. Next option is of course to migrate all hotmail and live.com accounts to Gmail. A pain - but will finally resolve years of being frigged around with pop access on pop access off, hotmail msnmail livemail, group chat msn chat live chat, groups no groups, etc etc. Thanks everyone for your random help over the years. I have appreciated it. "Gary VanderMolen" <gary@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uyG#5PaCKHA.3800@xxxxxx Quote: > One of your potential problems is that you are having AVG scan > your emails. | | Re: 3 different issues - Quick Views, Syncing and RSS Reading I don't know enough about Thunderbird to tell you whether it will also suffer bad effects from antivirus email scanning. Needless to say, there is no perfect email program, and sometimes we need to learn to live with the one that sucks the least. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Furry Atlas" <furtrash@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:upZOYGdCKHA.1336@xxxxxx Quote: > Thanks Gary. > > Actually I am using avast!
