| | Duplicate Messages from gmail Windows Live Mail is a bug-ridden mess. Every time it downloads messages from gmail accounts, they are always duplicated in pairs. |

| | Re: Duplicate Messages from gmail Yeah, I eventually took Gmail out of Windows Live Mail and have it forwarded to one of my other email accounts. You may also notice that the yellow New Mail Icon will remain on the WLM taskbar icon even though you have no new Gmail. -- Michael Windows 7 RC IE 8 Windows Live Mail 2009 (latest) Office 2007 (latest) "Nate" <Nate@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:E0BD8AD7-1A69-4F0C-BCEE-70C23461FD4F@xxxxxx Quote: > Windows Live Mail is a bug-ridden mess. > > Every time it downloads messages from gmail accounts, they are always > duplicated in pairs. |

Many people use IMAP with Gmail with no problems at all. Gmail's way of storing messages is unique, and different from every other IMAP server's way of doing it. The WLMail developers have worked hard to make it possible to use the IMAP protocol with Gmail, so I can only assume that your settings need adjusting. Here are some things to check: 1. At [Tools >] Accounts > (Gmail account) > Properties > IMAP, is the root folder entered as [Gmail]? 2. Is 'Check for new messages in all folders' selected? Try deselecting it. 3. Is 'Store special folders on IMAP server' selected (so you can see, for example, messages sent from WLMail when you access Gmail via the web)? If so, do the boxes contain the same labels as you see in Gmail on the web? 4. You can see all the labels used on the server on the IMAP folders tab. You can also choose which ones to show. Do these fit with your requirements That should get you a bit closer to making this work - like your engine would have done if you'd put some oil in it. -- Noel |

| | RE: Duplicate Messages from gmail So the consensus is I should be using POP except for the suggestion to use IMAP. Does anyone have a link to a web page to walk me thru the correct POP settings? (Either at Microsoft or Google.) Following the suggestion of: [Tools >] Accounts > (Gmail account) > Properties > IMAP Root folder path: (it's blank) Check for new messages in all folders (not checked) Store special folders on IMAP server (not checked) Sometimes when I watch the Send/Receive window, I can see long pauses at each folder as it is likely downloading them again and again despite no new items. |

| | Re: Duplicate Messages from gmail Like my car when I bought it, it just worked. I have to change the oil every 5k, but that is normal. | | Re: Duplicate Messages from gmail Yeah, Gmail takes forever to check mail or whatever it does. Another reason I took it out. Of course its no big deal to me because it is not my primary account....Good luck! | | Re: Duplicate Messages from gmail Previously this was configured as per Microsoft's guidance. However, as you know, Microsoft is constantly doing "updates" behind the scenes, so at some point this all stopped working correctly. To continue with Noel's analogy, as snarky as it is, this would be the equivalent of taking your car in to have the taillight fixed. Unbeknownst to you Mirosoft changed the oil with a new type, and tuned the engine to only use premium gas. Of course you don't find about about this until weeks later and are confound as to whey something previously working is now a mess. "MHL" wrote: Quote: > Like my car when I bought it, it just worked. | | Re: Duplicate Messages from gmail Gmail POP setup: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=86383 I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the speed compared to IMAP. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/VanderMolen "Nate" <Nate@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:F6EC734B-C406-4D59-B6C9-3B26863D07A8@xxxxxx Quote: > So the consensus is I should be using POP except for the suggestion to use > IMAP. > > Does anyone have a link to a web page to walk me thru the correct POP > settings?
