| | Windows easy transfer and importing e-mail????????? Hi you all Hi really hope someone can help me out. I used Windows easy transfer in Vista, to save my settings and files, formatted my HDD, and installed WIN 7. I then used easy transfer to restore my files. After that I realised Win 7 don't have an e-mail program, so I installed Windows Live mail (2007 IIRC, not the new version) But now I don't have any of my e-mails restored, and I cant find a way to get them. Can anyone please help me to get them back. I cannot afford to lose these mails, and I did not export it as I assumed all would be well with easy transfer. Thanks in advance |

| | Re: Windows easy transfer and importing e-mail????????? I don't understand why you did not install the latest version of Windows Live Mail. This sounds more like a Windows 7/ Easy Transfer issue. | | Re: Windows easy transfer and importing e-mail????????? If you were using pop3 and formatted the hard drive without having backed up the messages in your prior email client(Windows Mail ?) to a different location than the hard drive that was formatted, then they are gone. If you 'easy transerred' your Windows files to an external device(external drive or cd/dvd) using Easy Transfer...search for the root folder containing Local folders, Inbox, etc and *.eml files. Copy the files to the Win7 machine and browse to those folders to import the messages. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "boerriaan" <boerriaan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:A98D928E-F29E-4CE9-A864-EC66C6F467A7@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi you all > > Hi really hope someone can help me out. > > I used Windows easy transfer in Vista, to save my settings and files, > formatted my HDD, and installed WIN 7. > I then used easy transfer to restore my files. > After that I realised Win 7 don't have an e-mail program, so I installed > Windows Live mail (2007 IIRC, not the new version) > > But now I don't have any of my e-mails restored, and I cant find a way to > get them. > > Can anyone please help me to get them back. | | Re: Windows easy transfer and importing e-mail????????? Yip, used pop3 on windows mail. I did "easy transfer" all files and settings to an external hard drive. It is then saved as a .MIG file. I'm sorry, but I'm not very clued up, winston. can you maybe acces the root folder you're mentioning. The only file on the ext drive is the .mig file created by easy transfer. | | Re: Windows easy transfer and importing e-mail????????? Unless I have not understood the help files for easy transfer, the easy transfer only works to move files and settings to a Vista computer. If you want your emails, you need to easy transfer to a Vista computer. -- Ron Sommer MVP-Mail "boerriaan" <boerriaan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:7BE69DF5-5625-4123-8AD4-F938CB422A5E@xxxxxx Quote: > uhm, I mean - can you maybe tell me how to access the root folder - > sorry - typo... > > "boerriaan" wrote: > Quote: >> Yip, used pop3 on windows mail. >> >> I did "easy transfer" all files and settings to an external hard drive. >> It >> is then saved as a .MIG file. >> >> I'm sorry, but I'm not very clued up, winston. can you maybe acces the >> root >> folder you're mentioning. >> The only file on the ext drive is the .mig file created by easy transfer. >> >> Thanks for all the help guys >> >> "...winston" wrote: >> Quote: >> > If you were using pop3 and formatted the hard drive without having >> > backed up the messages in your prior email client(Windows Mail >> > ?) to a different location than the hard drive that was formatted, then >> > they are gone. >> > >> > If you 'easy transerred' your Windows files to an external >> > device(external drive or cd/dvd) using Easy Transfer...search for the >> > root folder containing Local folders, Inbox, etc and *.eml files. | | Re: Windows easy transfer and importing e-mail????????? Just a thought. What e mail programme were you using before WLM? If you were using Outlook Express on a previous computer that message store may be intact and you may be able to salvage and re import some of those older messages. -- Kind Regards Chris "boerriaan" <boerriaan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:2EAB764B-F311-4827-87C8-42E23A634240@xxxxxx Quote: > Yip, used pop3 on windows mail. > > I did "easy transfer" all files and settings to an external hard drive.
