Contacts Disappear from WLM Contacts & Duplicate Contacts Appearin

I have been fighting this for a few months now. Several of the regular
contacts that I email keep getting deleted from my contact list. For a few
days I thought it might be those with names higher in the alphabet, but I am
not sure I still think that is the case. I have added several people in the
last 2 months and went to email them today and only one of 4 people (added at
the same time) was in the contact list. And, before anyone asks, I don't
usually sign in with my live id. Over the past few days I signed into my
hotmail account and deleted all the duplicate contacts in there, and then
signed into this same account through WLM. After signing in, I went through
my contact list and deleted any further duplicates. Tonight when I looked --
ALL the duplicates are back and a few people that I am emailing today -- that
were in the contact last week, are now gone -- and NO, I didn't deleted them
-- I emailed one of the people after my deleting spree and he was in there 2
days ago. Today he is gone -- and again, I am NOT signed in with my live id
and he WAS NOT in the hotmail contact list anyway. Now he is no where.

One of the contacts that keeps disppearing from my contact list is my
sister. She was entered into both hotmail and wlm contact list and is
disappearing from the wlm contact list on a regular basis.

Any help is much appreciated. I am beyond frustrated with entering my
sister over and over and over again into my address book.

    Hi, JC.

Which build of Windows Live Mail are you using? Since you posted via the
web-based interface, I can't tell. In WLM (NOT in Internet Explorer or
other browser), click Help | About Microsoft Windows Live Mail and read the
build number in the Version line.

Go to http://download.live.com and get the latest build of WLM and as many
other Windows Live Essentials as you want. Build 14.0.8089.0726 was
    released just yesterday, 8/19/09.

I had that kind of problem when I was using an older version of WLM, but not
    in the current build.

Go to people.live.com and edit your Contact list there. It is a much more
robust place to keep your Contacts in order. Then wait for it to sync up
with your local Window Live Mail on your computer. Takes a bit of time.

    Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8064.0206)

I had checked for updates a few days before I posted this. I will check
    again.

After I posted this message, I went into the contacts.live.com and deleted
duplicates (again) and then went to windows live mail, where I was signed in
with my live id. All of a sudden my "All Contacts" total contact number
started going backwards. It went from about 1300 +/- to about 900 and all of
a sudden, I was missing lots of folks again. But, these people are in the
hotmail address book when I look for them there.

I have just installed the update, so my BUILD number now matches what you
    wrote in your email.

    WLM will not autocomplete

My new Vista computer has been returned from the manufacturer folllowing a
return to base under guarantee. All my stuff has been wiped, and I have
    restored from backup.

All my contacts appeared in a separate windows contacts folder, and I have
moved them to the windows contacts folder which shows up when I click the
start button, but Windows Live Mail does not seem to recognise its existence
and does not give me the option of autocompleting email addresses when I
    send a new email.

When I click the contacts icon at the bottom of the Live Mail window, an
empty box comes up, with no contacts listed.

When I go to my Windows Vista contacts list, right click on a contact and
select "Send mail" Vista tries to do it through Windows Mail and not through
Live mail, even though Live Mail is my default email client. But Windows
    Mail won't autocomplete either.

    Any suggestions?

WLM does not use the Windows Contacts that Windows Mail uses.
Open the Windows Live Mail contacts, click File, Import, "Address book
    for current Windows user".

    Re: WLM will not autocomplete

I did exactly that yesterday (imported address book for current windows user)
and it defaulted back to the WLM contacts which is significantly smaller than
    my previous contact list.
