Privacy with windows live mail

i have several accounts on live mail but when I log on the option to sign in
with my husbands account is there even though his accounbt hasn't been
downloaded. When I log on with his account he can see all of my emails.
Luckily I have nothing to hide but what if a friend uses my pc to send an
email?

Re: Privacy with windows live mail

1. Set up each ( you and your husband ) an user account ( NOT e-mail
account ).
Each user account will have own password known only to the user. Password is
needed to login to the user account.
2. Set up a " guest " account for friends who need to use your computer.
That done, nobody can see the other's personal data. Now you can hide your
secret lover's letters there ..... ha ha ha.

Re: Privacy with windows live mail

This is the Windows Live Mail newsgroup. When you say live mail, do you
mean Windows Live Mail (email client) or email Web access?
If you don't want your husband to see your emails, you have to access your
email with WLM in your own Windows user.
The sign in under the WLM close button is not a sign in for downloading
email. It is a Live ID sign in for Messenger, Contacts, Calendar, photo to
web upload,....

Not many email clients offer per user privacy in a single Windows User
account. Despite having password protected "Identities", MS Outlook Express
was not one of them. Even using Thunderbird, securing Profiles, or
Identities (Accounts) is not a trivial exercise within a single user logon.

Best is to use separate password protected Windows User accounts for each
individual who wishes to keep prying eyes away from her email. When the
logged in user steps away from the console, she can use the
[Windows]+[Break] key combination to lock her dektop. And she can log out
when she is finished with her session. Access to her files from another
Windows User account will be prohibited.

Maybe it is inconvenient, but it is the only viable method of security,
without going to the trouble of third party file encryption applications;
with their associated security certificates.

I think you mean <Win>+L to lock the computer. <Win>+<Break> brings up the
System Properties screen.

Oops. Of course! I knew that.

Just finished a couple of hours trying to patch up a Windows ME computer,
and used the [Windows]+[Break] over there.

Too many applications are seriously outdated (only goes to IE6, WMP 9, Fx
2.0.0.20, Flash 9,0,45,0, and so on). I am trying to lobby that user to
break down and buy a new computer. That creaky old HP Pavilion is about the
same age as my two older computers. But I've only upgraded one to Windows XP
HE; and that is slow as granny in the winter. I won't upgrade the other. I
cannibalized the RAM to bring the upgraded computer up to 256 MB of RAM; I'd
have to buy a 256 MB stick to bring it up to 384 MB, and that would be $80!

Re: Privacy with windows live mail

Anyone using your computer after you logon with your Windows Iogon name provided access to your machine will also have access to
all your email when using Windows Live Mail in addition to just about anything else on your machine.

Windows Live Mail provides the option to sign on with a different Live ID to provide that Live ID's contacts and calendar. It does
not restrict access to any email account or the ability to send/receive from any account or read and messages in all accounts.

If you wish to prevent access to your email, create a separate Windows Logon account(profile and password protect it).
