items in my inbox automatically move to deleted folder!

All of my inbox items have moved to a linked gmail account; and as of
yesterday, whenever any mail arrives into my Windows Live inbox and I then
open it, it moves automatically to the deleted items folder! How can I
stop/prevent Windows Live Mail from removing all of my inbox mail and
transferring it all without my knowledge to the deleted folder?

Re: items in my inbox automatically move to deleted folder!

The first thing to check would be to see if you've got any rules setup. I
don't have a gmail account so cannot test this scenario but I haven't seen
any other reports of this happening so it looks like it's something to do
with your settings.

RE: items in my inbox automatically move to deleted folder!

ADDENDUM

I moved all of the deleted items to my inbox again .... and in about 5
minutes, over 300 messsages just automatically moved into the 'deleted items'
folder.
I moved them back, and about 5 min later it keeps happening each time i move
them over. for some reason, there are a few messages from august that do not
move over like that. this is occurring with read and unread messages alike.

I have no rules set up so far either. I just installed windows live since
outlook express stopped working with hotmail. hotmail is the only account
that i have set up on live mail.

thanks

Is Hotmail setup as a pop account?
Right click on the account folder, Properties, Server tab
Does it say pop3?

Re: items in my inbox automatically move to deleted folder!

Hello Ron,

It says that "my mail server is an http server" Did I set it up wrong? is
it supposed to be a pop3 server? Should i delete the account from live mail
and add it again?

I was also wondering if would need to reinstall the whole program or
something?

Thanks!

Re: items in my inbox automatically move to deleted folder!

Provided you have used the correct HTTP server for your Hotmail
account, the structure and content of the Hotmail folders in
WLMail should be the same as the folders on the Hotmail system.

Firstly, please check the server name via Tools / Accounts /
Properties / Server. With my installation of WLMail, I am using
the HTTP (DeltaSync) server at
http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaS....0.0/sync.aspx. If you
are using a different server, please post back with the name of
the server.

I suspect you may have a problem with the synchronisation
process, so let's approach the problem from a slightly different
direction.

Close WLMail.

Then, use your web browser to sign into your Hotmail account at
www.live.com and click on Mail.

Open the "Deleted" folder on the webmail interface.

Select those messages you wish to retail and move them to your
Inbox. Check that the messages are safely in your inbox - and
sign out from your Hotmail account.

Open WLMail and synchronise your mail accounts. Once
synchronisation is complete, the messages should return to your
inbox and hopefully, they will stay there. Wait ten minutes or
so before you close WLMail, just in case the program is working
in the background.

Re: items in my inbox automatically move to deleted folder!

Thank you Bob,

a friend was looking at your response and followed some of the instructions.
We removed the account from windows mail, and added it again. There was an
option for manual settings of servers etc. I think that we used some of the
settings that were recomended on a mozilla site, including server names and
numbers.

I was also wondering, is it possible to have an IMAP account on hotmail?
would you know?

Thanks again

Http access is Microsoft's version of IMAP, the answer is no.

POP3 access to a Windows Live account does [normally] delete the messages
from the Inbox folder. If you set GMail to poll (using POP3) the WL account
and fetch the messages, then that's why your messages move to the "Deleted
items" folders on the WL account and you will see [copies of] those messages
in the GMail account.
