setting up live mail for yahoo

I today set up windows live messenger, it imported all my accounts from
outlook express flawlessly. Later I tried to add a newly created yahoo
account but I cannot send or receive from it. I have tried lots of different
configurations tried ypops and freepops but it wont work. I have tried all
the tutorials but no bloody worky. Im begining to think it cant be done.

Re: setting up live mail for yahoo

I think you need to upgrade your Yahoo account in order to use it in desktop
email apps....if you can't get it to work just use their webmail or forward
your emails to another email account.

I have no trouble using 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', or 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com'; but
my ISP is a Yahoo! partner ('at&t Yahoo! HSI'), and my ISP login works with
those servers, as well as the proper ones we are given: 'pop.att.yahoo.com',
and 'smtp.att.yahoo.com'.

I also have no trouble using 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.jp', or
'smtp.mail.yahoo.co.jp'. But you need to be able to read Japanese to
navigate their email setup. Yahoo! in other countries also offers free POP3
and SMTP access.

However, in the U.S. and Canada, you either must have a paid "Yahoo! Mail
Plus" account ($19.99 per year), or use one of the third party web-to-mail
proxies. I've never gotten those last to work; except briefly, many years
ago, when 'yahoo.com' accounts did have free POP3/SMTP access, and I didn't
really need the proxies. I've not gotten them to work, since.

Both Yahoo! UK and Yahoo! Australia allow free access, and you can sign up
from the U.S. I did sign up with "Y7" (Yahoo! Australia); but you have to
use the account frequently, or they delete it.

Re: setting up live mail for yahoo

Windows Live Messenger doesn't import from Outlook Express.
Do you mean you installed WLMail and WLMsgr and the former imported your OE accounts.

Are you trying to setup Yahoo as Pop3 account ?
Is the Yahoo account a Yahoo Plus account ?

Re: setting up live mail for yahoo

Did you read the part in the tutorial that says "you need to pay the
yearly $20 for "Yahoo! Mail Plus" service."

Re: setting up live mail for yahoo

Yes I saw that part, I thought I could get round it by using ypops or
freepops but it cannot be done, so I just set up yahoo to forward mail to my
regular email account. Thank you for your replies.

Re: setting up live mail for yahoo

You're very welcome. Thanks for reporting back.
Yahoo periodically makes minor changes that throw YPOPs
and the like for a loop. :-)
