| | OE 6 To Windows7 Transfer Questions From Sr. Citizen Hello, A true Sr., Sr., citizen now I guess by definition, so please put up with me a bit. Not too sharp with this stuff anymore. Expect to get a new PC as soon as te new ones come out with Windows7 pre-installed in late Oct. Presently using OE 6 and XP. Trying to learn about some of this now, though. I guess I will be forced to use Windows Live rather than OE with Windows7 My needs are simple, and OE has done everything I require, but I understand that MS WindowsLive is a pretty basic one also. Is it possible to transfer all my saved OE Folder files like SENT, etc. from OE to WindowsLive (easily) ? Read a brief mention that if you go to OE/ TOOLS/ OPTIONS/ MAINT. there is "some" way of creating a folder with all the stuff you want to transfer, and then loading it into WindowsLive. Is this the (best and easiest) way to do it, or... ? Have quite a few Folders now in OW, such as SENT, and the individual ones I have set up for diffwerent topics. Would the transfew show up as these Folders again, or would I have to sort them and re-place them in new Folders in Windows7 ? Any specifics and really detailed instructions on what, and how, to do the transfers would be most appreciated. Thanks, B. |

"Windows Live" is nothing more than a collection of assorted online services, which can be accessed through applications running locally on the computer. But which "Windows Live" service? That is the question! Assume you are referring to the email client, "Windows Live Mail", which is an application that can be installed on a Windows 7 computer. (I hate "assuming" things; half the time I "assume" something, I get in serious trouble!) Probably easiest to install Windows Live Mail (not "WindowsLive") on the XP computer, and let it import messages from MS Outlook Express. Then you can run "Export" from WLMail. I managed to export one account Inbox to a portable storage device, but I attempted two folders, selectively, and it errored; apparently something wrong in the attempt on the second folder (possibly it need more space than I have remaining on this 2 GB SD chip). (with *all* of the .dbx files) into a specially created folder on the Windows 7 file system, then point WLMail to that folder during an Import operation. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

| | Re: OE 6 To Windows7 Transfer Questions From Sr. Citizen What I would do is install Window Live Mail (WLM) on your current PC and it will import your OE accounts, messages and contacts. Then start using WLM. Then when you get your new PC install WLM on it. It doesn't come with Windows 7, although the PC manufacturer could install it at the factory. Then you can export your WLM data from XP and import it on the new PC.
