unread contact folder

had an email from a friend and it appeared in the Quickviews in a folder
called Unread from contacts...never seen that before and most email is from
'contacts' so why is this different. more confusing is after being read it
disappeared altogether! not in my Inbox so where did it go? searched All
Email and found it and moved it to my Inbox where it's now. any ideas what's
happening here? or am i starting 'senior moments'....?

Re: unread contact folder

The option is unread from Contacts showing all unread mail from all contacts for all email accounts.

That Quick view can be disabled if desired. Place cursor on the Quick Views title in the left hand pane, Right Click on Quick
View/Select Quick Views

It disappeared after it was read, since it was no longer 'unread'(WLM updated the view)
The Inbox of the receiving email account is the usual location unless a rule/filter moves it elsewhere

If it wasn't in your Inbox, where did you find it ?

Re: unread contact folder

To find the location of a message when in 'Quick views', you first need to be viewing the Message List in Two-line Layout view (View->Layout...->Message list->'( o ) Two-line view' - or - '( o ) Choose view automatically' if you have the Reading Pane displayed).

Then, when in a 'Quick view', hover the mouse pointer over an item in the Message List. Near the bottom of the InfoTip that appears, you will see "Folder:" after which will be indicated the location of the message in WLMail.

To find the location of a message on your Hard Drive: Right-click the item in the Message List (Two-line view)->Properties->General [tab]->Location: [field].

Remember that, if you have multiple Mail Accounts, then you have multiple
Inboxes, so you might have to look in each one of them if you are not sure
which account received the message.

Quick views' Unread e-mail is not actually your Inbox. An Inbox shows all
messages, both Read and Unread, that have been received and have not been
moved out of that folder. Quick views Unread e-mail shows only the UNREAD
messages in all mail accounts. Once that message has been marked "Read", it
no longer appears there, but it will still appear in the Inbox for that
account - unless it has been moved, by a rule or otherwise, as Winston said.

Will 'all-inbox' not show what he's looking for?

Yes, as long as that Quick View is used.
The op first used All unread from Contacts(it disappeared when read), then used 'All e-mail'(which shows all mail in all folders
except Junk and Deleted). 'All inbox', your suggestion which shows all messages in all Inboxes, would be acceptable.
