Has anyone found a way to add a second account to Live Mail on one machine,
in XP? My wife has migrated to Live Mail but I still must use OE in order to
keep my contacts and messages seperate.

up in Windows Live Mail 14.0.8089.0726. They all show up as separate folder
structures. The email for all of those accounts is kept separate. However,
assuming you want something like MSOE Identities, where a person logged in
to Identity "A" can't access email messages of Identity "B", two points of
information:
Anybody logged in to MSOE Identity "A", can, in fact, access the email in
MSOE Identity "B"!
Windows Live Mail does not have Identities. For Windows Live Mail, the way
to keep prying eyes out of your mailboxes is to set up Windows User
accounts, with passwords. When you are done with a user session, you log out
your User account. Then the other person logs in her User account, and
access her email in a different instance of WLMail.

If you want to get something similar to the OE identities, you have to
set up multiple Windows logins.
As for keeping messages separate within a single Windows Login, WLM does
that automatically. Each mail account in WLM gets it own set of
folders, even POP3 accounts whereas in OE all POP3 accounts shared a set
of folders.
Contacts is a different matter. Unless you are using Microsoft
Live/Hotmail accounts, you have only one set of Contacts in WLM. If you
are using Live accounts, you can sign-in to the desired account and you
get its contacts. Sing into a different Live account and you that
account's contacts. Don't sign-in (or sign out) and you get a different
set of contacts. But if you have multiple non-Live accounts, they are
going to share a single set of contacts. Note that this is different
than the Tools, Accounts, Mail accounts. For signing into WLM see
Tools, Options, Connection.

separation of users.
Michael,
I made some changes to your paragraph:
Contacts is a different matter. Unless you are signed in with Microsoft
Live ID, you have default set of Contacts in WLM. If you
are using a Live ID, you can sign-in to the desired ID and you
get its contacts. Sign into a different Live ID and you get that
ID's contacts. Don't sign-in (or sign out) and you get the default
set of contacts. But if you have multiple non-Live accounts, they are
going to share a single set of contacts. Note that this is different
than the Tools, Accounts, Mail accounts. For signing into or out of a Live
ID see Tools, Options, Connection.
If you have a Hotmail or email address, it can be a Live ID.

Thank you, but - "She Who Must Be Obeyed" erupts should I start that user
account business. I just wish there was the cabability for individual
accounts in LM as is in OE. Peace in the household is more important than
this present nuisance.

keep even the POP3 accounts separate, with separate folder structures; but
there is no inherent privacy between the accounts. SWMBO must either get
used to no privacy, or get used to separate Windows User logins. Or you just
continue to use separate email clients.
