| | Spell Check Not Working I've been using Outlook 2003 and Outlook Express 6.0 for mail and news, but recently downloaded and installed Windows Live Mail. I migrated everything and it's now my default mail handler for this WinXP box. When I compose a new e-mail message, Windows Live Mail checks spelling when sent. However, if I reply to another message, spell check fails. A pop-up box reports that "The spell check on this document was halted. Do you want to send anyway?". I can highlight text and manually check spelling; but automatic spell check malfunctions. I tried unchecking all spell check options under Tools, Options, and Spelling tab, then closing WLM. When I restarted WLM and reset those options, the lack of spell check for replies continued. I've seen several other reports of this issue in Internet searches, but no firm fixes. In Language options, English (United States) is listed as installed. That line is also darker than the rest, so I guess that means it's the default? However, the four buttons to the right are grayed out. Any ideas? |

| | Re: Spell Check Not Working Uncheck Always check spelling before sending. Check Check my spelling as I type. Why do you need to check spelling before sending when you can check it as you type? -- Ron Sommer MS MVP-Mail "Jim" <jimx@newsgroup> wrote in message news:eo$mmFVSKHA.1372@newsgroup Quote: > I've been using Outlook 2003 and Outlook Express 6.0 for mail and news, > but recently downloaded and installed Windows Live Mail. | | Re: Spell Check Not Working Ron, some people have good typing speed and may type from notes, without looking at the keyboard or screen. If you have to stop and correct mistakes as they occur, productivity takes a huge hit. For my situation, checking spelling as I type isn't much of an option. That would be like stopping every few miles to add gas to the clunker from gallon jugs, instead of filling it up at the gas station. I know you can fix this, if it's not a bug, because I've seen you work miracles for years. | | Re: Spell Check Not Working He has...hopefully there's still has a few loaves and fishes to left<eg> Jim, I do agree with your method...I don't rely on checking while I type since WLM, checks but doesn't auto-correct(like other products)...for the most part save common errors, it underlines what is incorrect. It's a lot more efficient for me to check once the message is complete or later when sending. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "Jim" <jimx@newsgroup> wrote in message news:#NkSeiVSKHA.3876@newsgroup Quote: > > I know you can fix this, if it's not a bug, because I've seen you work miracles for years. > > "Ron Sommer" <rsommer@newsgroup> wrote in message news:#GEDcWVSKHA.3540@newsgroup Quote: >> Uncheck Always check spelling before sending. >> Check Check my spelling as I type. >> >> Why do you need to check spelling before sending when you can check it as you type? >> -- >> Ron Sommer >> MS MVP-Mail >> >> "Jim" <jimx@newsgroup> wrote in message news:eo$mmFVSKHA.1372@newsgroup Quote: >>> I've been using Outlook 2003 and Outlook Express 6.0 for mail and news, but recently downloaded and installed Windows Live >>> Mail. | | Re: Spell Check Not Working You are describing OE spell check. As Winston said, WLMail underlines incorrect spelling, it does not stop when there is a spelling mistake. I assume that you glance at what you have typed before clicking Send. Even spell check doesn't catch fro if I meant for. With Check before sending selected, I think that the spelling is being checked in replies when you get the Send anyway message. The checking is just being stopped when it gets to the reply. What the message is saying is the text has been checked before the reply, are you ready to send. I don't have any languages darker than the rest. One of the languages has to highlighted for any of the four options to be usable. You can check the spelling in different languages by installing the Language bar to the Taskbar. I could compose using English, change the language to Spanish, compose and spell check using Spanish, switch back to English. This is another reason why I don't want the spelling checked when clicking Send. -- Ron Sommer MS MVP-Mail "Jim" <jimx@newsgroup> wrote in message news:#NkSeiVSKHA.3876@newsgroup Quote: > Ron, some people have good typing speed and may type from notes, without > looking at the keyboard or screen. | | Re: Spell Check Not Working Ron & Winston, you're both right. I needed to ....ignore the original text in a reply or forward.... Thanks for the help. | | Re: Spell Check Not Working Ron is correct. The only way I could get rid of that error message is to unselect "Always check spelling before sending". I suppose it should be considered a bug, or else Microsoft should make the two spell check methods a toggle so you could only select one method. -- Gary VanderMolen, Microsoft MVP (Mail) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/def...le/vandermolen "Ron Sommer" <rsommer@newsgroup> wrote in message news:%23GEDcWVSKHA.3540@newsgroup Quote: > Uncheck Always check spelling before sending. > Check Check my spelling as I type. > > Why do you need to check spelling before sending when you can check it as > you type? > -- > Ron Sommer > MS MVP-Mail > > "Jim" <jimx@newsgroup> wrote in message > news:eo$mmFVSKHA.1372@newsgroup Quote: >> I've been using Outlook 2003 and Outlook Express 6.0 for mail and news, >> but recently downloaded and installed Windows Live Mail.
