| | Multiple Windows Live Mail computers and Window Home Server Will Window Live Mail allow the Store Folder to be shared on a server like Windows Home Server? I'm pretty sure the answer is YES. But... what could go wrong if two people are using Windows Live Mail at the same time on different computers using the shared Store Folder on WHS? The emails are being downloaded from Comcast for all email addresses and placed in the user's Inbox(s) and then automatically deleted from the Comcast Server. |

| | Re: Multiple Windows Live Mail computers and Window Home Server The answer is NO. The store folder needs to be on a PC's local hard drive. I'm guessing this is a POP3 account. You can have all users/PCs download all message from a POP3 mail server by selecting Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Advanced, Leave a copy of messages on the server in all users/PCs. One or more of the users/PCs should be set to delete messages from the server after a few days or else the server mail account will eventually fill. However, Sent messages will only be saved on the sending user/PC. If your mail service offers IMAP mail server access, that is the way to go. IMAP is designed for a single mail account to be shared by multiple PCs. The IMAP mail is managed at the mail server. If your mail service doesn't provide IMAP support, an option is to run your own local mail server that accesses the mail service via POP3 and then provides IMAP support to your local PCs. For examples of such a programs, see: Mercury Mail Transport System http://www.pmail.com/overviews/ovw_mercury.htm Hamster "Classic" http://www.arcorhome.de/newshamster/...amster_en.html -- Mike - http://TechHelp.Santovec.us "Ken" <krlorenz@newsgroup> wrote in message news:CE350C0C-C1C1-4301-A4D7-B3512CA637D8@newsgroup Quote: > Will Window Live Mail allow the Store Folder to be shared on a server > like Windows Home Server? I've not tested with WLMail, but MS Outlook Express would not actually "fail", but it would recreate the account file structure locally if it could not find the removable, or networked resource. Does Windows Home Server not include a mail server? What I do with Windows (formerly ME, but now upgraded to XP HE) is run a third party MTA: Mercury/32. This includes a POP3 client which can poll any number of POP3 accounts, and place the downloaded email in defined user accounts on the Windows computer. Then I configure Mercury/32 as a local IMAP server. I point any local (networked) client at the computer running Mercury/32, and set up an IMAP account in that local client. I really don't know all of the capabilities of Windows Home Server; but, I would expect it to include at least a rudimentary version of the MS IIS Virtual SMTP server, and, hopefully, allow for setting up an IMAP server. Or something akin to an Exchange server, which should work as well. Otherwise it wouldn't really be a useful "Home Server" system. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

| | Re: Multiple Windows Live Mail computers and Window Home Server Yep. The WHS server group got back to me in an hour and said no way. I got greedy. WHS does a super job of backing up my systems and storing shared data. I'll leave it at that.
