Why won't Windows Live Mail remember my passwords?

I selected the Tools menu, accounts, selected an account, properties, server
tab, entered the password with "remember password" checked, clicked apply and
ok. I have done this for all accounts (there are eight).

If I quit Windows Live Mail and restart it, the program asks me for the
password to each account (except Hotmail) because I have it set to check all
accounts for mail when I start the program and then in 10 minute intervals. I
enter each account password and check the remember password box and the
program is fine until I close it and restart it.

I am using XP Pro SP3.

I don't understand why it won't remember these passwords.

RE: Why won't Windows Live Mail remember my passwords?

Forgive,
There could be a couple of answers to this problem, but the first question
is when did you start having this problem. The reason I ask is there could be
an easy fix like a rollback of your system to a good known point where your
machine was working or more involved methods related to your user profile
or a corrupt registry.

Re: Why won't Windows Live Mail remember my passwords?

Either your antivirus program or one of your other security programs
may be blocking writes to the registry. Changes can't be saved if
they can't be written to the registry.
Some of the security programs known to do this are:

Ad-Aware Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
Kaspersky
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spy Sweeper
Spyware Doctor
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5, reported to be fixed in later versions.

Re: Why won't Windows Live Mail remember my passwords?

See the Method 3 fix here
Save password setting not retained in Outlook or Outlook Express
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290684

For an alternate description of the procedure, see:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_oe_passwords.htm

Although the articles were written for Outlook Express and Office
Outlook on XP, the same issue could affect WLM.

RE: Why won't Windows Live Mail remember my passwords?

This might be the problem:
Go to Tools, Accounts, properties of an account, Servers & if the My Server
Requires Authentication box is checked, click on the Settings button next to
it & make sure your password is in there.
Other than this, I have no clue.

Re: Why won't Windows Live Mail remember my passwords?

If the incoming server is set to use/remember the username/pw, and the outgoing enabled to use the incoming settings, then entry
of the username/pw is not necessary on the Settings dialog box.
